The sweet potato is an extremely unusual case in that it was transported across the Pacific by Polynesians before the Colombian exchange! In fact, this is some of the most reliable evidence that the preindustrial Polynesians reached Sou

The "clever" version I've seen in some papers is to use reverse electrodialysis to recover energy as you dilute the waste brine with seawater. AFAIK, this has not been incorporated into any existing installations.

A lot of politicians have challenged the two-party system over the years. Some examples: Ross Perot, Ralph Nader, Jesse Ventura, Gary Johnson, Andrew Yang, Tulsi Gabbard, and now Cornel West. One thing you might notice about this list is th

I thought the article was reasonably upfront about the limitations of the use of total biomass as a measure of ecological value. But the subtitle, unfortunately, omits those details. There is a bit of "until next time" in all of t

The function 1^x is constant everywhere. You can write (-1)^x to get the kind of effect you are looking for, but doing this with 1^x is madness. >The only disadvantage of this approach is that symbolic differentiation and integration are

If you're really slick about it, you even "fix" the Gaussian integral this way. Let é = e^sqrt(2pi), déx = dx/sqrt(2pi), and we have int_{R}(é^(int_0^x(t dét)) déx) = int_{R}(e^(sqrt(2pi) x^2/(2 sqrt(2pi))) dx/

You can always define angles in turns. But the problem is that it conflicts with the definition cos(x) = Re{e^(ix)}. Trig is not so easily separated from the rest of mathematics.
