I should have said "hacking" not "hacks". Hacking implies coding (at least to me), and a growth hacker uses programming skills to drive growth. I just don't see many SEOs doing that. I love SEOs, I think most are fantastic people, but when

Growth Marketers? Sure. Growth Hackers? Very rarely. I love your posts John, but "Hacker" implies a level of coding in my opinion, and I think most here on HN would agree. As someone who talks to a few dozen SEOs a week, 99% of them cannot

What about existing startups using braintree that haven't hit that level yet?

I see them as a competitor to Commission Junction, Linkshare, and ShareaSale. The big old affiliate networks with interfaces and customer service that make me gauge my eyes out. We're looking at using Refer.ly to handle our affiliate progra

This is a massively huge deal for attribution of organic search. The queries you can download from webmaster tools are just 1 column of data....nothing to tie queries to conversions or any meaningful metric. If it was everyone who was losin

Yeah I mean, sure SEO isn't exactly rocket science...but it's a little more than making a URL crawl-able....

(not provided) is lame, but I don't think that will hurt how this service tracks who's Googling you. It looks like they look up the IP address to see who is searching for you. BTW - I run notprovided.com and have had 100% days of (not provi

Well crap. I really liked this product and had enjoyed the free beta...it was great for sending out updates to advisors/potential investors. I would have paid to keep it going. Congrats to the team, but bummed the service is going away.

I agree with you there. I would think Google penalizes the sellers, and only if they can nearly 100% confirm that the site linked to initiated the link, then the link buyer. In the past Google would just take away PR from link sellers, but

Google is done playing nice. For years they have said, "Don't do this. Don't do that" but never enforced those positions with any real backup until the past 18 months. Don't write crappy content. Bam! Panda update Feb 24th, 2011. Don't get

What I really enjoyed about this post is the ending... You learn all the hard work Tracy puts in on her own. And in the end she EARNS a technical co-founder. She doesn't stop working on her product while waiting for the mythical tech co-fou

Not sure about 2004 but I bought an ad on facebook in 2005. It was for a specific university and that was about the extent of the targeting if I remember correctly...

I've stopped doing minor multivariate testing in favor of A/B testing only major changes to a page. It's just too tempting to play around with color changes all day instead of building my business.

It does, but it's not just SPYW. It's the endless amounts of "extra" stuff that keeps getting added to the formally very clean SERP.

My issue with it is mostly in the visual implementation. I had hoped that Google would be more subtle about it, instead I look at the SERPs and see them shouting at me.

I didn't know anyone but marketers on Twitter in 2007. Give Google+ time, everyone wants a legit Facebook competitor right now, but it's going to take years not months for Google+ to go mainstream.
