The burden of proof is on the prosecution. The defendant has a right to remain silent(5th amendment) and that silence cannot be used against him/her. If there is no evidence* that the person knows what marijuana smells like, then their

I dug a little deeper and still did not find it. There were two similar cases, one in which the box truck had a pass-through into the cabin, and based on this, the conviction was upheld because it was deemed that the pass-through from the p

IANAL but I have read a ton of case law on similar subjects involving possession. In the case of Rettenmaier, the possession laws work almost identical to drug possession laws. When the contraband is not in actual possession(physically on t

Our government feels that the "all men" in "all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights" really just means US citizens. The courts have held over and over that our co

The vast majority of convictions arise from plea bargaining. Prosecutors and law enforcement stack charges so that it appears to be a 'good deal' to just accept a plea deal rather than risk trial and spending decades behind bars

Most judges now just seem to be rubber-stamp operators anyways, particularly in pre-trial proceedings and in situations where someone doesn't haven an opportunity to defend themselves against the action (such as in the case of a search

Why de-orbit? Why not use the same rockets to move it up into an orbit that doesn't degrade as quickly and doesn't need to be maintained at regular intervals. A ton of money was spent launching and building it. Why not leave it fo

I'm not sure if you're being pedantic in that most 'satellite' photos are actually aerial or not. The more obvious sources would be Bing Maps and Google Maps/Google Earth, and they likely aggregate multiple sources.

Just about any satellite photo provider can be used to locate military bases also. The heatmap is neat but I don't see why it's specifically bad for military bases.

Yep. I often try to look 'thru' the windows on the vehicle in front of me to see what's going on in front of it. Seeing that car plow into the stopped vehicle plays through my head routinely when driving.

Humans aren't that great at this either, especially considering our tendency to follow too closely. I witnessed an accident very similar to this. A vehicle was partially blocking the left lane of a 4 lane highway. A pickup truck was tr

Airbags save lives. Airbags also kill babies if used incorrectly. There are warning placards in several places in your car saying such. Sometimes an airbag can cause more injury than the accident. A seatbelt may trap you in a sinking car. B

To answer my own question, using numbers from [1]: U235 = 79,390,000 MJ/kg 1 kWh = 3.6MJ 1kg u235 = ~22,000,000kWh 1g u235 = ~22,000 kWh of energy For the HB11 reaction: 1000 / .014 = ~21,000 kWh/g So about the same as curr
