Trying to discuss diets is always controversial, and I hope I don't sound like I'm on a high horse. Everyone has different motivations for their diets. It could be health, ethics, taste preference, etc.. I try to be a "flexit

The movies don't really have much in common in almost every aspect (obviously). But it is funny to remind yourself to see The Narrator as a darker, adult, worn down, insomniac Cameron throughout Fight Club. And that Ferris was his teen

Yes, I'm not comparing the two movies directly. I just find it funny and interesting to view both as happening in Cameron's universe.

I've always liked the fan theory that Fight Club is the sequel to Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I can see Cameron growing up to live in a "neat" apartment, working as an insurance adjustment claims officer. But this time, th

I sometimes feel like that, but I don't think it's anything to do with age. First factor: having kids (or replace with any other adult stuff). It takes a lot of mental and physical energy I could just use for other things before.

My first PC had an Hercules Graphics Card with Amber monitor. After seeing my friends' CGA PCs I marvelled at the "high resolution". Fond memories of WordStar and XTree in Amber :)

(I've lived in Portugal more than 20 years ago and things (i.e. laws) might have changed significantly.) The problems with abandoned, degraded but historical/beautiful buildings had to do with several factors. One factor was the s

It would be relevant to note that the Java 19 number is the JDK size. The JRE size is almost half that, 180Mb IIRC.

I had dozens of obsolete books (think "Introduction to PHP 4"). - Libraries didn't want them - Collectors didn't want them - Charities didn't want them Ended chucking them in the bin.

Rupert Murdoch is a bad example. He is widely acknowledged as the UK's "Kingmaker". That's even the actual title ("Kingmaker, The Rise of the Murdoch Dynasty") of a BBC documentary about him: https://

Such a shame. Atom was (is?) great. The first editor extension I wrote was for it (in Coffeescript, no less. Terrible idea in hindsight). Thanks for the good times.

If there's anything that the tech industry History taught us, is that it's a rise and fall of empires speed-run. Everything is transitory and there's no recipe for eternal success.

I especially like how they rotate roles between staff. For manual, repetitive work, this is a nice idea to reduce boredom and improve everyone's day, IMO.

To be honest, I don't understand some people's "faith" in Twitter. In my view, Twitter (like all social media) is completely replaceable. There's nothing about it, technology wise, that can't be copied with som

The CentOS/Rocky debate was about release targets and never about the Open Source nature of it. This seems simply another case of using something as the backbone of a business and demanding it to be free (as in beer).
