These are all fair points, as is the one about not comparing a product with an open source project. But my DO droplet, which runs all my websites, costs $10/month. All the other incredible stuff I use costs 0. Also, recurring costs add

At $5/month I'd probably grudgingly do it. At $10 I'd deliberate and postpone, and it's unclear which side I'd land on.

Since I know you are figuring this all out, here’s some pricing feedback for you: I’m a weekender - building a desktop app (OS X & Win) for individuals and small businesses. I hope it turns into a real business some day, but as experien

I started with Sublime, switched to Pycharm, and then switched back to Sublime for a Ruby project. I REALLY wanted to standardize on Sublime, but I wound up switching back to Pycharm. The debugger was the killer feature for me. Many of the

This is truly fantastic. Excuse me for being daft, but how do you transform back into 'what does this mean'? For instance, in ex 3, we see that N. Ireland is an outlier. It wasn't obvious to me that the cause was potatoes and

I thought this was a great post, some amazing code, and humbling since this is WAY beyond my current - and future - ability. Even more impressive - it looks like the author is a freshman in college! https://www.linkedin.com/

Just a bit more generic. Cloudant sponsored this, so I wanted the db calls to be simple templates anyone could learn from (and everyone uses jquery, while angular is less common).

All of these questions, I believe, can be easily answered with the existing, Algolia-based, HN API. (Though good questions all.) What hind-cite adds is a time-based component. (The existing api shows the end result - number of points, com

Fixed. I had to remove my cool embedded, recursive chart showing how the post itself was doing. But yeah, that redirect back loop was maddening. So now to see the chart, you have to click on the Post History page or this http:/&#x

Ah - shoot - that's probably a recently introduced bug! My bad. I wanted to include the chart of this Show HN post itself on the home page (as an example), and that is apparently causing all sorts of weirdness. I'll try to figure

I'll leave the architecture of the cloudant db to the Cloudant guys. Being able to add data, though, is interesting. If people want to add different views (which basically trasform the data using map/reduce), we can add those to

I too wonder this. I assume runnable, jsfiddle, plnkr, etc. make money somehow, but I've always been curious as to how? I love the services and really appreciate them, but I don't get it. Any ideas?

I'm an ex-crossfitter and thought this and the Rippetoe article mentioned were excellent. They have the ring of truth. I loved Crossfit, miss it, and yet probably won't go back. It wasn't the suffering - that was a positive.

Could you go through this process? I just did something where I used a file that was outside my repo but I knew there must be a best practice that I just didn't know about. What is it?

I'm still missing a piece of the puzzle. With Vagrant, though heavy weight, I have a completely defined system. If I spin up my production server using the same definition (I use ansible) as my Vagrant config, I guarantee the same out

Question: This, and many other posts, suggest that PyPy is the way to go (as a user). Faster and compatible - what's not to like? But elsewhere I read, 'hold on'. It actually isn't faster with things that use a lot of C

I second this. I read the other comments about the flaws in the article, and I'll take them as valid. Even barring them, I understand a lot more about the different types of python and, the different layers in the stack, and even a bit

I thought about doing flask, because I love Python and it would be way easier than monkeying around with Angular. But most of my code is D3, so it's a lot of javascript anyway. And by doing angular, I basically upload one page to the u

Though I should point out there are definitely weird things with the raw NSA data. For instance, their precipitation data at one and 6 hour increments do not match at all.

Yes on both of those- I really love python and find myself way more productive in it. D3 is undoubtedly powerful and if you are an expert I'm sure you can be efficient at it. But as a novice it takes a while. I do my analysis onipython

Interestingly the python experience has been incredibly different from 20 years ago. Back then I was hunting memory leaks in C. In python I program at a much higher and more efficient level. The Web side, however,is much more like the old d
