Have you tried grabbing JSON directly from the web server responses to the browser to get your contacts? I haven’t tried this on LI but it’s my dirty trick for exporting conference attendee lists when they’re made public on websites. YMMV.

All LLMs will always have multiple quality issues. A tool that complex can never be perfect. FWIW GPT-4 via API has treated me well, more consistently than ChatGPT. Would be nice if they solved the issues with Assistants but that’s another

I use DuckDuckGo primarily and hear good things about Kagi on HN, but haven’t used it much myself. DDG is fine I suppose, although my most frequent use case of looking up (nearly wrote “googling”) code solutions is mostly handled by ChatGPT

This is basically the line of argument used to push for layoffs in 2022-2023[1]. From an investment standpoint, Google is a curious play, as it shares a massive ad market duopoly with Meta, yet invests billions in dubious product lines with

Having spent far too long in the annals of higher education, those who would be comparable stewards of growth are few and far between.

Should’ve talked to my doctor ages ago about my chronic nausea and stomach pain and pressed them until they discovered the cause was my Pentium 4 gallbladder. Wasted a lot of time being sick for no good reason that I can’t get back.

The fiction writer Brian Aldiss was quoted as saying “Civilization is the distance man has placed between himself and his excreta.” We are Neolithic animals with miraculous technology and far too little time to evolve at the same pace. Hom

In my experience, the urge to refactor everything stems from one or a few really really badly coded features that waft their smell to the rest of the codebase. The limited from-scratch refactor can be painful in the short term, but after it

Fewer VC-funded hyper growth companies means a smaller pool of experienced developers to hire from for other ventures. Not the end of the world here but worth accounting for some of the silver lining of zero interest rate policy.

Article is from 10 years ago. Difficult to claim houses are a bad investment when prices have skyrocketed in that time.

Rome hasn’t been the seat of empire for over a thousand years but it’s a rather nice place to live in today. Detroit won’t return to the way it used to be, but it will regain its footing in its own way over time.

Step 1: Pick a thing any tech company needs: design, security, ethics, code quality, etc. Step 2: Create a “team” responsible for implementing the thing in a vacuum from other developers. Step 3: Observe the “team” become the nag: ethics na

I think my down payment was 5% for a 3-3 in MCOL…mortgage is only a few hundred more than our friends who rent an old 2-1, although we live in a small low income village 30 minutes from the more prosperous city they live in. We would not ha

I fed my pupper the biggest spoonful of peanut butter he’d ever seen, he fell asleep peacefully. When the vet switched to the euthanizing agent, he didn’t move a muscle.

Probably more carrot than stick. NK hackers who can bring in millions to the state from crypto hacking, ransom etc likely live more comfortably than manual laborers.

Decent analysis, but what kind of solution is “don’t use Jira” with no alternative suggested? Jira is a fine tool in and of itself, just don’t turn it into a religion.
