I wanted this for GPIO on my PC to interface with some hardware, but all the prebuilt USB TF232 adapters had the GPIO pins closed off, and AFAICT the TF232 requires flashing using some proprietary windows binary to get into a mode where the

I think that's probably right but... that video basically says "you could use string for lots of things long ago, the movie Castaway proved it was necessary, we use string for lots of things today." Short-form videos are not

Aside from "not ancient" Java has everything you want! I'd consider the best tooling (Intellij), static, strongly typed, has enums now (sealed interfaces), composeable error handling, null safety with new module flags, etc.

I think the descriptivist vs prescriptivist debate often misses the point. Language shifts aren't bad in themselves but some language shifts reduce useful specificity in a language. Like if "literally" no longer means "

Is the implication that the body needs more Vitamin D than the body will produce through sunlight exposure? I thought sunlight exposure was best because it wouldn't lead to _too much_ Vitamin D.

I watched the Tencent show based on the immense praise here at HN and I agree. The characters especially, but even none of the major plot pieces had any actual bearing on the plot. If you replace the robots in "I, robot" you

I agree with a lot here, but I think the author is overplaying "get things done fast" or underplaying "stable, performant code". I like indie games, but I've played enough games that crashed if I look at them wrong
