I would have problem with this if Chrome was total anti-user garbage, but like I said, it was (and still is) a solid product that brought forth a lot of good things for non-technical users, plus Chromium is open source. Google is not a char

Firefox was better than IE, but eventually, Chrome became better than Firefox for a majority of people. Silent auto-update, anti-phishing, sandboxing, extensions that "just worked". It also came with it's own flash plug-in, w

Zircon (previously named Magenta) is their new microkernel. Fuchsia is the full system.

I'm not on Facebook so I don't know much about the newsfeed, but the goal is to eliminate trolling and toxicity, not debates.

Why not use machine learning and a sort of "reputation system" to filter out the noise and trolls? The system could analyse comments, but the users could also, instead of upvote/downvote buttons, have buttons with reactions s

Give me a $300-$400 Android phone with support for Project Treble and an unlocked bootloader and we're talking. I'll put LineageOS on it: regular security updates, yearly OS updates and no crapware!

Wow, quite impressive specs for 200 eur! Also 2 years of OS updates minimum .

Magenta (their new microkernel) is being renamed Zircon as they reorganize the OS into layers named on gemstones. As for the UI, their new compositor requires a GPU with Vulkan support to make it run. Unfortunately QEMU doesn't support

Then why are so many people still on Windows 7 despite the fact that there was a free upgrade to Windows 10? Is it possible that a lot of people simply don't like the new "modern" apps (UWP) MS is pushing? Is it possible they

You know you have a problem when people refuse a FREE upgrade to your latest product. In my opinion, this is a consequence of Microsoft's refusal to just give people what they want: an even better, more optimized Windows 7. That's

Google must really make a crazy amount of money to be able to provide "free" 15Gb for each Google account. I don't know how many Google Account there is total, but that must be huge. To compare, Apple is giving 5Gb per iCloud

You're thinking like a technical person. Aunt Susan doesn't know her phone is an Android phone. In her mind, it's a Samsung phone. It's not a question of not caring, she simply doesn't know.

I disagree. Android has some problems (updates being one of them) but lots of people love Android because of the ability to customize the OS the way they like, being able to change default apps, access to the file system, etc... As for Wind

The simple fact that we have to rely on volunteers to have a recent OS on our phone shows how problematic updates are on Android. Hopefully Project Treble will make the lives of Lineage devs easier.

The only problem I see with the Essential Phone is that you'll only receive 2 years of OS updates. For a $700 phone, that's a bit insulting.

Google fixed that in Android O with Project Treble, but the Essential Phone won't ship with O unfortunately.
