That's not evil. That's exactly how I would want to be treated in a class. I don't want to learn from people who know less than me, I want to learn from people who know more than me!

How is putting it on an auction site and then ignoring it because you got a private offer not neglectful or unprofessional? That's exactly what it is.

It seems every other week there's an article about Estonia on HN. Could be observational bias since I've moved here, but it seems Estonia is doing great tech-wise.

Yep, that's probably exactly what's happening, I've had it happen too. And the solution is the ping that he proposes. So if that was the problem, the ping is resetting the session cookie every 60 seconds and the problem should go away. One

It seems to me that the 24ms was the whole process they were using, i.e. put data in memcached, take data out using a seperate process, and put data in mongodb; versus putting the data straight into mongodb.

S3 is really expensive. Dropbox really should get themselves their own infrastructure. There's no reason a huge company like Dropbox should stick with S3, and I'm pretty sure they're already planning/working on moving away from it.

The Lua-code doesn't appear to be executed once for each lookup - as I first imagined how it would work. So sadly, one cannot point different region users to the closest server IP.

It's awesome how the IDE and compiler is just accessible over HTTP straight on the BeagleBone. It's taking bootstrapping to a whole new level.

I did not presume anything. You only have to look at prior HN posts to see how it is reproducible in 3 hours, one definition of easy. Note that my comment pertained to innovation, not usefulness. I don't doubt that there is a market for vis

Visitor.js is arguably not very innovative. The only "added value" that I would consider is having it all in one nice library. The knowledge necessary to create visitor.js is almost at the level of a beginner. How many 'hello world' tutoria

1% CTR is a high estimate for Adsense on a site like Stackexchange. 3% is downright fantasy. SE is basically a forum, and forums are notoriously difficult to monetize with general ads. I think it'd be better to hire a sales person and get a
