Even more off-topic, but something I’m struggling with personally: how do you find the time for projects, with kids in the picture? Me, I can just barely eke out a truncated workday, then it’s kids and housework until the kids go to sleep a

Why, exactly, will people in the future want to take the preserved brains of dead people and bring them back to life in some digital heaven? I can think of a few incentives for them to do so and it doesn’t seem appealing to me from that poi

A sufficiently complex menu is not really that discoverable, either - you end up having to memorize what category the devs have decided to file a particular function under.

No, ”log” just means some form of logarithmic response curve when encoding color data. You don’t necessarily get better dynamic range per se, but you get a more useful distribution of the light samples your sensor is taking.

I think we’ll find, among other things, that making tons of minute decisions is exhausting. Iterating your way to an end result is a way of getting something , but so far, the rule of thumb seems to be that the more control you have over a

Knee pain can be from a variety of causes, some of which have to do with the actual joint and some of which don't. For example, medial knee pain can be, to name two options, an MCL tear or just an inflammation of the bursal sac. I had

The problem is, it’s made by Meta. I remember when Facebook was a place you went to get in touch with friends. That was a long time ago now - at some point they stopped showing the feed in chronological order and I thought it was the wors

Assuming A. Federal law takes precedent and B. Federal law indeed requires car manufacturers to keep some things secret, then it seems like they would have to stop selling cars in Massachusetts.

How is it going? As I understand it, the plant grows roots several meters deep, survives being covered up potentially for decades and can regrow from tiny fragments of root left in the soil. Yes, I have some I’d like to get rid of, too.

Seitan is gluten which is perfectly digestible, unless of course you are sensitive to it. The oat milks I see sold here are fortified with calcium and vitamins as well as iodine. No argument on vegan cheeses.

One thing that comes to mind is that by the time a judge orders a hold, more than 24 hours will have elapsed since any chats that hold applies to. That is, if such a hold only applies to records created before the hold - do these orders app

I kind of expect things to go the way Peter Watts prophesied in the Behemoth trilogy - the Internet becomes infested with self-replicating spambot-descendants to the point that an open, global network becomes untenable. No-one’s coupled an

It was reported in the news today that the USA is looking to tighten access to classified material as, currently, about one million US citizens have a top secret clearance.

I’d like to add to the list: -Non-sentient AIs going off reservation. How far away are we from being able to cobble together a self-replicating system that uses an LLM to perform tasks (scams, probably) in order to fund its own hosting?

Human works are granted copyright so humans can profit from their creative endeavours (I’m not getting into whether this is good or not). No-one cares about an algorithm in the same way.

I still would argue against AI being able to do art better . There’s a line of thought that art is specifically meaningful because it’s humans thinking about things, but let’s leave that aside for now. Generative models are revealing how m

It’s not really clear to me from reading the article what it did here, but it sounds like the judge asked the bot if there is precedent. If that’s the case, what if the issue is nuanced and the precedents are conflicting - the bot might pro
