Its scary that my company is replacing old Oracle DBs and teams of specialist DBAs with developers running their own PostSQL instances. Sure it saves money but its gonna blow one day soon...

I can't go out of my apartment because of the virus and can't hang out in the forest because of the bacteria in ticks. What century is this?

Agreed I've never heard of a 8 week cap either. Actually I thought it was the opposite, if you have WARN act its a 60 day notice period before the severance, its more like 8 weeks is a minimum. https://www.edd.ca.gov/Jo

Thanks, I'm interested too why people think car manufacturers are the best place to make ventilators. What are the difficult/bottleneck parts to build?

Thanks! I feel honored you replied. I'm mostly a backend programmer who tries a bit of front end work so dont have a lot of time to learn everything. I will try again because every beautiful visualization I've seen is d3 based.

D3 is great, but last time I looked at D3 it worked a lot more like jquery than modern frameworks. Is it still worth using or in the decade there are better ways to work with React/Vue/Angular.

I think they mean over the next few years. This virus is in every city in the world, we can't contain it everywhere. Eventually its just another endemic disease, but one we can vaccinate for and treat at a steady rate.

I'd love a Rust job, but there are so few roles out there, nearly everything is Javascript/Python/Java. Is it worth even learning?

Its nice to have some proper opinions and recommendations. Seems the tech world is so full of articles and blogs that show you how to do something, with very little saying don't use this because...

Yes if you're vulnerable it would be better to get it today than in a month when hospitals are full. However it would be even better not to get it at all or get in 6 months time when doctors know more about how to treat the disease and

Why 12v though? What requires that much voltage? The chips are running at a few volts. Spinning drives are gone, is it just for fans? Seems silly to provide 12v then shift it down again.

Most people work in factories, teach in schools, treat people in hospitals, clean houses, drive cars/buses/trains/planes, cook/serve in restaurants, work in shops or warehouses. Most people can't WFH.

No, this isn't a crash, the main US indices are just back to where they were 6 months ago. That isn't a great buying opportunity, they weren't cheap 6 months ago either.

Surely this is a good thing about the future? Everyone is tracked and when a serious crime happens we can find out who was there. I agree it feels weird now and will need some controls worked out but seems inevitable and not that scary.
