In the US, but we've used PayPal's direct payment gateway (Websites Payment Pro) for a number of client sites, and its been great. The rates are very reasonable ($30/month, 2-3% + $.30 per transaction), and the only weird requirement is tha

This doesn't sound right to me. Do you perhaps mean PCI Level 1 compliance (which requires on site data center audits and thus cannot be provided by any cloud host)? For instance, what about Heroku/EC2 prohibits me from using Authorize.net

I don't think that's the issue. For me its very simple: this is Metalab's Intellectual Property, and it should be respected. In my opinion, it will be difficult if not impossible for Mozilla to create a truly original design if they are moc

Really? That's cool? Internal design or not, saying to your hypothetical intern "hey go knock off the design of the company we decided not to hire until we find something else" is whack.

Having seen several of these postings, I agree with you - the $12/hr rate helps her stand out in a positive light. I'm not as sure about the leverage stuff, but it definitely communicates that she's someone who's looking to break in anywher

Yes, this is it. If you host your blog on blog.mydomain.com your main site won't receive the full benefit of the inbound links. Side note: sometimes this is desired. For instance, one domain can only occupy 2 slots in a SERP, but each subdo

Interesting. It bricked for me on not having Quicktime installed, so I hunted it down on YouTube. (Firefox 3.6 / Windows 7 PC).

Exactly. It all reminds me of the bit where the designer tells American Airlines or Zappos they're idiots, and the company tries to explain that their design is made to move shoes or airline tickets, not win design awards.

That's pretty much what this article is about. ArsTechnica experimented with blocking their content to those using AdBlock, and this post is in response to the backlash.

I think you're dead on about eBay and Amazon being the main sources of income, but we should give them a chance to address this. You have to figure they thought of this on day 1. Specifically, I think this is not moot: " arguable if this ge

Cute idea, but I don't see it gaining real traction. There's been many attempts at vanity TLDs that were arguably more useful/intuitive (e.g., .jobs, .me) and they've yet to see any real adoption. For that matter, even .net's are hard to se

You can encrypt your records. Perhaps this is a dumb question: How does that solve the problem? Either its readable by all or by none. It's hard to take out somebody's nameservers, since there's no single point of failure (unlike with mo

IIRC, the leaked Twitter documents mused on Twitter acquiring CoTweet. Would have been a great fit. IMHO, Twitter's business model should be CoTweet.

I doubt it, and honestly I don't think there should be. Businesses can't be allowed to censor what is said about them at will. Yelp may be a flawed implementation, but the concept is sound.

"I think the quote about Google being the frontpage to stackoverflow is pretty ridiculous personally." Why? Because its true? There's a lot of content sites I use all the time but never visit directly. Yahoo Answers comes to mind.

As I understand it, their algorithm looks for keywords with little to no competition, but at least ~$10/year potential in AdSense revenue. If they can find such a keyword, they pay someone ~$5 to write an article or make a video on the topi

Its not fair to lump Demand in with Mahalo. Demand's business model is filling in holes with their own original content, not scraping (or "aggregating") other people's content. AFAIK, Google views their relationship as symbiotic, not parasi

Its really a shame how low Google's standards are for AdSense. I've tried advertising in the content network several times, but each time I end up wasting so much time blocking MFA sites that I give up.

If you have high-quality traffic which generates a lot of sales, you actually can negotiate better rates with affiliate networks. Their published payouts are just a starting point for the negotiation.

I agree, but technically this is not true: The details on the strip aren't much more than what's on the front of the card. The magnetic stripe gives you Track 2 data, which you can't read of the card without a machine.
