I could see this being a great tool for electricians, plumbers, and other in home service persons. There is already a high degree of trust there, and certainly anyone who understands what reverse engineering a dongle entails also understand

That's my understanding. We frequently build websites for clients on Wordpress, and certainly aren't intending to release them under GPL, although I don't think it would make a huge difference in practice. The fact that Wordpress delivers t

Very cool, worked as advertised. Two things: 1) It sent me a text letting me know the message had been received, and another with the result. The confirmation was nice, but since the messages came 2 seconds apart you could skip the first on

I end up having an if-by-whiskey argument with myself about this, especially regarding the "n-word." If by saying the n-word casually, you mean removing the hatred and power behind a word which has divided our people for centuries by giving

FWIW, this blog was running WP 2.8, which is about 6 months old. Current is 2.9.1. Upgrading is trivial. If you're not keeping Wordpress updated expect this to happen to your blog too.

Probably making a solid amount of money. Having shamefully owned a few typo domains in the past, I can confirm this is true. The ad click-through rate on typo domains is absurdly high (~33% IME), probably because the ad is for the domain

Its not a dumb question, and I hope you haven't been discouraged from future participation. The advice you've been given here is excellent though. If I could add one thing, it would be this: In your first paragraph, you've already made 3 ex

The main reason for the 140 char limit is SMS. When it launched, Twitter was mostly a way to do a sort of SMS listserv. I wouldn't call the 140 char limit an anti-feature either. Its become a key differentiation point, and is in many ways w

I've asked a couple of friends with corporate jobs, and they said Gmail is usually open but FB is blocked. They also said it doesn't matter, because everyone has a smartphone. Not a great data point, but interesting none the less.

I mean, yeah, it's technically the right thing to do. But it's just shy of impossible to implement, and it presents a goofy user experience to your users. oAuth is actually really easy to implement. I've done it several times now, never t

I disagree. Its a parasitic site with no original content that causes confusion with the original. That's spam. Even if there are no ads, there are secondary benefits to MacHeist. In addition to the free press, they'll get a nice link sourc

No, you'll probably see no changes in your day to day life as a result of this. There's no "interpreted version as opposed to the hiphop-able version", in terms of the code you write. As the article mentions, almost no one is really running
