I think the only way forward is for some manufacturer to step up and design hardware that will run Linux, yet be competitive with the features of Surface. We're only worrying about this entire issue because the mass market, presumably, will

Are you sure you haven't got that around the wrong way? If I check Facebook right now, I will have missed everything that happened in between now and the last time .. unless I scroll and scroll and scroll. But if I check email right now, I

In my case the personal answer is that there is simply nothing productive, at all, about using Facebook. It is indeed a total waste of time - for everyone. I've yet to see anyone actually get any work done while facebook.com is up on the

Another vote for kupfer here, I'm a huge fan of it, and install it instantly on receipt of a new linux workstation .. terrific tool, lots of nice plugins and very usable.

If you want to develop apps for iOS on Linux, use something like MOAI or Love2D, or COCOS2D, and so on .. I use Linux as my main development machine, and regularly deploy directly to Android and iOS devices from this very seat. Of course,

One reason why "ifs are smelly" has become a maxim in some circles is because they represent an under-tested code path. In such areas as safety-critical/life systems, where a different codepath can be taken on the basis of a single var, th

If you're talking to me, I'm not part of the MOAI team, I'm just an independent developer who wants to contribute to the effort of getting MOAI running smoothly on Ouya .. my offer stands for anyone else is interested.

Maybe they'd like to be using MOAI productively as well, and besides that: I'm not "a company" but rather an individual developer who is willing to contribute to the community - of Ouya developers, Ouya users, and MOAI developers. Understo

Hardware game controller support on Android (within MOAI) is not implemented, and would need to be done according to the ODK. Also, it very definitely needs to be tested ..

I don't need hardware, but if you've got it, then you could do the work and I could assist you. I don't need access to hardware, but I'd sure like to know that MOAI is running smoothly with the Ouya ODK as soon as possible .. ;) (I'm work

I just wanted to add that the LOAD81 project is another great way to learn Lua: http://github.com/antirez/load81 (Yes, that antirez..) I strongly encourage anyone who wants to learn Lua to check out LOAD81 - its a lot simpler than MOAI,

Personally, I'm 100% a raving MOAI fanboix, I can't stop promoting it as a neat way to develop cross-platform apps. Okay, its not a way to get a native app developed - other frameworks are better for that, although I'm hesitant to recommend

Write a nice, clean C library and export a decent header. Then, use the tolua tool to read that header and generate the bindings for the Lua VM. Build the LuaVM with those bindings, and suddenly you have the features of your C library ava

Yes, you can write some functionality in C/C++, and export it to the Lua VM, and access those features from within the Lua language environment. This is really awesome! A really good example for you is MOAI: http://getmoai.com/ Look und

Fortunately, it is very easy to implement these structures in Lua, if they haven't already. The basic datatype of Lua - the table - can be treated as a hash map, a sorted set, a priority queue, very, very easily .. in fact if you think the

I don't know what you mean by C being extreme .. for me, its not extreme at all, and rather I find working in C to be a comfortable, rewarding experience pretty much 100% of the time. But being able to extend beyond the scope of a static C

I've been a C programmer since 1984, and have been happily ignoring a lot of new-school language fads as a consequence. I've found that there's very little reason not to use C - it is small, it is fast, and with 30+ years of experience now

I think you don't know what unlimited means. It doesn't mean "infinite" - it means - there was no limit placed on it. Sorry, but you didn't understand that word, plain and simple, and now you really have created an ass-thread for yourself.
