I'm "building" my own laptop by getting a Motorola Lapdock and an MK802 PC-on-a-stick and glomming them together .. oila! Upgradeable laptop! :)

Sure, its easy to work with. Just don't always try to work with the latest, bleeding edge kernels. Most RT/Safety-Critical Linux kernel installs are still based on 2.6.x, or even some cases, 2.4.x series ..

Linux is used in a lot of places these days, where VxWorks or QNX might've been. I've been responsible for putting Linux to work in SIL-4 critical systems all over Europe, for example, saving millions in licensing costs while at the same t

It is very interesting because it is a story about the longevity of hardware and software and how, in the end, the decision whether a platform is useful or not is up to the USER and nobody else.

Yeah I've been there since the GP32 days, and have Pandora #008 (the eighth one to ship) so I'm kinda lucky that way .. and yeah, the emu guys are really key to the Pandora scene, a bunch of them are still kicking out titles and optimizing

I have kept every single 'special' computer along the way, since my first coding days, and I have to say that there is definitely a kind of zen state that occurs when you return to the old systems after decades, and re-code things. It has

With regards to emulation and a return to the classics, I got an Open Pandora ( http://openpandora.org/ ) recently and have been having a blast returning to all my old cartridges, type-ins, tape archives, and so on. My first computer was an

Yeah I'm closely watching the tablet space, if I can get a 17" tablet with ultra-high res, plug in a PC-on-a-stick, and use a keyboard with it, I'll have my development machine again. I just can't really sit there for long on a 15" screen,

I hear it. I'm a stickler for comfort and design, so I'll be going for the thinnest, slabbiest, least-dent-prone thinkpad I can find when the time comes. I really do insist on the slab - i.e. as few indentations as possible - approach, so

To be fair, if we get a good handle on available resources once we're there, the likelihood that we can send a 3d-printer to Mars that will build a living base is quite high. The assemble-in-place science can be made to work, and I believe
