I would love to try this out for a week or two, but I can't imagine doing this for 9 months. For me the feeling of claustrophobia and loneliness would be overwhelming.

No that is incorrect. The credit card network returns most of the fees. They absolutely do not keep a percentage of the full amount. The credit card network might keep $0.3, but Stripe decided to keep the full 3-4%.

Stripe stopped being competitive when they began keeping all of the transaction fees, including a percentage of the entire transaction, when issuing refunds. A customer changed their mind... well you just lost a lot of money.

I find the original images that were used to generate the art to be much more beautiful and emotion evoking than the strange and lifeless AI images. Maybe it’s just my subconscious but for me something always seems off with the AI generated

Banks do not charge a percentage of the transfer for wires or ACH. It is a set fee, usually in the range of $15-35 (stripe probably pays less than a dollar). That is a huge difference between charging 1% of the transaction.

The payment processors are only charged a tiny fee, not a percentage of the transaction. Up until a few years ago Stripe, Paypal and others had no issues with refunding the entire amount.

There's also the problem with chargers. No one else has such an extensive and easy to use charging network.

My biggest issue is that they keep all the fees in case of a refund. Sometimes customers just change their mind, and this will cost you. It will cost you a lot if you’re selling high value items.

Assuming you're using RDS then multi-AZ deployment is just a simple configuration option. If you're using Aurora then it is handled automatically and is even less expensive.
