Who cares? Feel that code density ! More seriously, yup: if you read the architecture manual this instruction can take a long time. It's also a pain for a OoO (not superscalar!) cpu to keep track of all the dependencies. It made comple

Energy gravitates. Photons have energy, therefore photons gravitate. Photons only have zero /rest mass/, not zero total mass.

Ha. People have been making exactly this complaint for as long as C++ has been around. Meanwhile the language just keeps rolling on, picking up new features like some demented Katamari Damacy character. It’s a puzzle. One can only conclude

It's not compulsory in the UK to wear cycle helmets. There has been the occasional attempt to pass such a law in the past, but none were successful. Cyclist organisations are very averse to helmet laws, seeing them as marking cycling o

IIRC it's easier (smaller energy cost) to absorb nutrients from cooked food than raw food. So there's an immediate evolutionary advantage to eating cooked food - you get more energy out of the same total food calorie input.

Picking hunks for resolving merge conflicts is far easier in Magit than using the CLI. Obviously you’d normally do the latter in an editor anyway, but since you’re already /in/ your editor it’s then seamless to continue the merge

I think the point is that most ordinary C-code should already conform to this access pattern. The side comment about aliasing is a great big hint in that direction. (This article is grist to the mill of my "every CPU eventually evolves

Apple’s re-cycling program has always been corporate green-washing. It’s far greener to make the maximum possible use of your very resource intensive products. That would eat into Apple’s profits however, so they go out of their way to make

Yes, that’s why you can’t do it in 3 dimensions (without self-intersection) - if you have an extra dimension to hand you can invert the sphere using the extra dimension to avoid self-intersection I believe.

It’s totally plausible. But if the core of your star is sufficiently massive then the initial collapse takes it over the Chandrasekhar limit & it forms a black hole immediately. Then the rest of the stellar material just falls into it.

Every building needs upkeep. Whether it’s a castle or a cottage. If you don’t keep up the repairs, eventually the roof fails, rain gets in & then it’s a relatively quick slide into total ruin.
