I think it's general for open source, most source contributions aren't very good in the first round. The trick is to keep potential contributors enthousiastic enough to take your comments well and rewrite the patches to conform to the stand

I'm using hosteurope.de (as I'm in Europe and want decent ping times). They have pretty good deals, starting at €13/month for 1GB RAM and 5TB data. I'm still on an earlier plan, 256MB for €10/month though. They have pretty decent service, b

I just use 'git grep' to only grep in tracked files. It's worthwhile to learn that tool, for example to learn how you can grep in older revisions.

I recently bought an Archos 5, which I'm very happy with as a gadget. However, it's stuck on v1.5 of the Android OS right now, with a custom GUI extension added to make up for its lack of keys and home/menu/back. Additionally, it's not a G

The title of this post was edited after I posted, it was something like "Spain gets 53% of its energy from wind" first.

I think this blogpost debunks this pretty good: http://uvdiv.blogspot.com/2009/11/spanish-wind-power-exposed... Spain only gets about 9% of energy from renewables on average, which is much less than a lot of other countries. The 53% numbe

The article uses an interesting way to note speed differences, using relative (-20%) changes rather than absolute (0.8) differences. I've not seen that before and I'm not sure I like it. For example, something -99% is 100x as slow as the or

There's no need to ridicule the writer for his opinion. There's a big difference between a moving a mouse in 2d space with a device moving on a 2d surface and navigating in menus. A better comparison is navigating in a 3D game vs a 2D (plat

GitX has a Snow Leopard userbase of 61%, so I'm not sure if it would be worthwile to make it Leopard-compatible. I don't think many users would upgrade to SL only for Gity, though some participants of the GitX user survey said they would if

I guess some competition to GitX is good :). I'm almost finished with my study, I'll see if I can get some work done on GitX again while I'm looking for a job. The icon does look a bit familiar though.

In the Netherlands you pay ~€8-15 / month for all the TV channels that are available, so the AppleTV solution would never work here. There are less channels and US series are delayed (usually by a year or somewhere near that), but it's stil

Also, it's 18% (now) of <60% of the users who upgraded, so that's more like 30-40% of users with a flawless upgrade.

Apple might have something in the pipeline yet, even if it isn't the iTablet. There's some interesting recent development in the low-power processors, and Apple has one advantage above all the other computer vendors: they aren't tied to x86

I wonder how this will play out marketing-wise. It's already hard to find good applications, and this will make it harder. I never look at the 'free' section, as there's mostly just crap in there, and only look at the 'top 25'. If everybody

I don't see how. The maps used by OpenStreetMap are under a free license, Wikimapia is just proprietary (Google) maps with a bit of user data on top. It's like comparing Wikipedia to Encyclopedia Brittanica with user comments.

The first generation of the Intel SSD's contained halogens so Apple couldn't use them. The new ones are halogen-free, so it might be they show up in future revisions of the MBP.
