It's not JS that's the problem per se, it's what JS is being loaded and very often that's a metric ton of marketing crap i.e. stuff for retargeting, tracking and many other modern horrors.

Meh. To have a little life you have to compete for a good job so you have a good pay. The author frames it as if you can just semi-retire and still have $200K a year which is observably and factually absolutely not true. Like the tired Holl

You seem to have missed the criteria that I gave: namely that I buy stuff that I'll derive direct value from now or VerySoon™. As for brands, obviously that's a thing but it's not always due to propaganda / ads -- often

Yep, that's sadly my current setup. Most of my data are not super critical. When I can spend some $3000 or so I'll absolutely buy several 20 TB drives and just nail the whole thing -- and will use ZFS -- but for now the several sp

Are you being obtuse on purpose or are you really desperate to "win" this debate? EXTREMELY OBVIOUSLY I meant this part of your comment: > As long as you keep signaling to MD that you'll tolerate more and more crap for lo

Another trope that never gets old, it seems. Many people have stopped going to McDonald's by the way. But not enough for McD to hurt. Then what? What does our agency change in the world in this situation? You are using cop-outs as well

Meh. I have no idea if I am smart or not -- the last several years proved to me I am definitely stupider than I thought -- but I know that with time I only started buying things I directly derive value from or in the worst-case scenario, I&

No, I can't imagine that because again, nobody cares. You are demonstrating the problem very clearly btw: you assume people would have cared and that's why nothing was done. Which is a puzzling thing to say. Because clearly, the p

There are also LED lights that are more pleasant to look at and don't blind you. OP's point stands: nobody cares. Nobody even thought about it for a minute. Everything are items in a spreadsheet. Took me less than a minute to ask

Yeah I know, thanks. But ZFS still mostly requires drives with the same sizes. My main NAS is like that but I can't expand it even though I want to, with drives of different sizes I have lying around, and I am not keen on spending for

Thanks. I wish would-be parents had psychological evaluation at least. My mother and father were 95% inept to be parents. They did the very bare minimum and then one of them died and the other was, shall we put it softly, just a drag for 22

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I was a guest in communities where people said they had problems with homeless people on a regular basis. You are free to not believe it. I for the moment believe my eyes and ears.

FYI: the main reason I gave up on bcachefs is that I can't use devices with native 16K blocks. Hope that's coming this year. I have a bunch of old HDDs and SSDs and I could very easily assemble a spare storage server with about 4T
