Well, that's the thing for me: I can't see a subject or a discussion. Just a few random rants. People's memories get triggered and they start discussing. Kind of like discussing what's the message of an art piece.

Indeed. That's a gross understatement even. And I'd argue that former nerds turn into predatory CEOs just fine, given enough time and money, too.

To take a face value such a blatant generalization like "I really believe you did not understand the article or my comment" you might want to give an example? I did not find the article illuminating one bit. I agree with some of t

Sucks or not, it's pretty logical. Venting is not interesting to me if I am reading something on HN. Or if they are, it's rare. Also what you call "negative energy" I would often call "rightful criticism on non-dist

How idealistic of you to assume people will even be able to agree on what's a sensical and nonsensical suggestion. OP indeed has mutually exclusive phrases. If we ever get to the "extremely directs facts/proofs" then thi

No, I disagree that it doesn't make sense. I was mostly saying that the OP's "hats" are generally just various random points along the spectrum of "how much would you invest in the code". They are kinda arbitra

I am not sure what you find unfair, not like I am polarizing anything. I too introduced nuance via the "chef's hat" amount of effort one is willing to introduce. I was also disagreeing with OP about their idea that polishing

Not sure what's even the point of this article. One of the conclusions I was able to surmise is "it's OK to suffer all the time" which I vehemently disagree with but oh well.

This could be formulated much better IMO but it's good that OP gave us this to check out and comment on. I'd simplify this to "commercial hat" and "hobbyist hat", more or less, but there's another axis ent

Not sure I got you right here but this is exactly the situation where you should calm your breathing and make triple sure you don't make things worse -- because things can always get worse.

Alright now. Let's have a quick go at this: "You gain nothing (other than some smug ivory tower sense of superiority) by making your functions pure and passing around a global state object to every single method invocation."

Commendable, still let's not forget that the part I quoted was the beginning of a mud-slinging contest that you seemed willing to start. ;) So indeed, let's re-focus and re-engage. To that end, I will post you a longer reply Late

Thank you. <3 And yep I didn't want to make my comment too big. I make double sure to document any step-by-step processes on "how to make X or Y work", especially when I stumble upon a confusing bug in a feature branch. I

These moral questions stand unsolved for decades, and many people are acutely aware of them. IMO it's time we start putting those executives in jail for it. But we all know it ain't ever happening.

Cool, okay. Nuance matters, I agree. Nuance also demands we point out at the businessmen who can't discern one programmer from another. Different people thrive in very different environments and this is, 99% of the time, ignored.

OK, I still want instant switch between separate chats in Slack though, not this 1970s-like 1.5s laggy slow transition on a machine that can scan ~300K files in the same 1.5 seconds.
