Please define "fine"? There is always a very detectable lag when switching between channels and/or DMs. Always. Not a single exception. There's zero technical and human reason for allowing that to continue. The visible

Well you kind of debunked your own first point: while we theoretically can have very fast and responsive Electron apps, the fact of life is that we don't; they are a vanishing minority. What "can" be done is kind of irrelev

We all know the dangers, dude. It's always a ROI and other analyses: stakeholders don't care much about malware in transitive dependencies, they want feature X within timeline Y. Do I like it? No, I hate it with all my heart, but

Correct, you're sharing a feeling. And feelings don't matter in our line of work. Also I wasn't aware you should be "giving a shit" about a lock file. Nor why would that matter for anything at all. The final program

I agree with your take and would slightly refine it to remark that having in mind how protein unfolding / producing works in our bodies, I'd say our genome is heavily compressed and we can witness decompression with an electronic

Neovim is fine and just as easy nowadays -- if you can `git clone` two repos (in my case: AstroNvim + my config) and just start `nvim` then you can go fill a glass of water and it will be 80% done by the time you sit back on your computer.

Because you and others draw parallels to left-pad and that is very far from what is actually happening in the Rust ecosystem. > Is it a rule that anyone disagreing with you is ill-informed? Obviously not, I am getting a bit agitated th

Yes, it's extremely common, think at least 95% of the time. Time to delivery is the main metric for almost any company that ships software.

Rust is not taking this into the extreme at all. You're taking a ranty ill-informed article way too seriously. Maybe it confirms your bias?

Good news for you: Rust is already quite mature and is mostly the same as Java in this regard. OP is exaggerating, if not misinforming.

Rust is nowhere near the craziness of left-pad and it saddens me to see how many "I agree" comments I've read in this thread with zero accounting for nuance.

The sentiment is good but our OP here is not making their argument well (and is incorrect about terminal development btw). Mike Perham also talks about a dynamic language in an ecosystem that was just as obsessed with left-pad-like lunacies

You have to start somewhere. Strongly specialized programs that f.ex. never access disk and only access network are a good candidate to be tested in either restricted containers or brand new OS-es that carry legacy baggage. It's doable

While Rust projects unquestionably pull more dependency, there's zero of the left-pad culture in the community. It's simply pragmatism. And the OP is wrong about the terminal functionality by the way; stuff does actually change th

Yep, that too. Many people made measurements over the last 10-ish years and the ratio between content and marketing stuff is something like 250:1 at least. On some websites it was 10x that.
