The Map interface pre-dates Optional and does not return Optional, so it won't return an empty Optional but rather null. To be more clear: Map<K, V>.get(foo) returns a `V`, not an `Optional<V>`. If your `V` is `Opt

The alternative theory is that any word starting with a vowel sound is exceedingly uncommon after ’a’ in its training set, so it doesn’t need to plan ahead, just predict the distribution of the most likely next words and choose. Which is my

Apple didn’t create contactless payment infra in the US either. The contactless interface was already there, had its own logo, usable by tap cards, etc. Some retailers eg CVS turned off tap payments when Apple Pay was introduced.

I don’t think I’ve ever felt upset at mobile Safari’s browser engine. What am I missing?

How long until ‘this app only works on browser X’ on mobile that is only available via a third party store? Not impossible. We’ve been spared that so far but happens frequently on desktop Safari even today.

Maybe that which is best for a mobile computing platform is different than a desktop one. I like my iOS and macOS each in their respective place today.

EU could decide next that app sandboxing is anticompetitive restrictive gatekeeper behavior and force Apple to change that too. It too violates the ‘it is my hardware let me do what I want’ ethos expressed in this comment section.

I don’t see any restrictions on these app developers requiring them to publish to multiple stores or the App Store. In fact, only publishing an app to an alternative store seems to be the point of much of this.

This applies in the other direction too: in this DMA world, at some point perhaps an app I will want will only be available in Meta’s Store and I’ll have to either accept their (maybe ickier) terms or forgo the app, whereas without the DMA

I remember running into a paper from Google circa 2017 IIRC discussing the maintainability issues with machine learning models but haven’t been able to track down since. Does anyone know which one this is and have a link?

I agree that this method will produce a better estimate of expected mean real world performance under certain load conditions, but still contend it just muddies the waters about which solution is in fact the fastest. And here is Andrei Alex

Look at what people make in MineCraft. If people had the ability to do that in real worlds, they would. In addition to the effect you describe, I think energy consumption would grow with ergonomics/facility of use.
