Actually, I was talking about this kind of too-deliberate-to-be-true and trying-too-hard-to-look-cool atmosphere at Microsoft events, not about Bryan Roper's style in particular.

Which is something I really don't get, at all. This all looks and sounds way much nerd -ier just because they try so desperately to look cool.

The impression I have, in the humble projects and companies I work with, is that it's more related to the decision-makers. So many features are added based on whims, decided on meeting rooms and based on engineers or managers gut feeli

> As he says, robots are the best workers. That's not a statement that can be made universally, I think. They're way better in scenarios which tend to be deterministic, but otherwise not so much (e.g. when there's more int

Based on my experience, this reeks of management imposing their design decisions (i.e. the buzzwords of the year) on designers and their work.

No they don't. But that doesn't answer the real question here: is the new UI better enough to outweigh the amount of time and productivity so many people will lose while adapting?

That matter costs time and money. It's a real problem; for many people, Photoshop is their main work tool. Changing it has a cost.

I think the issue is not a good UI going bad . Rather, it's a familiar UI going unfamiliar . I can use Ps with my eyes closed, and it's software aimed for professional usage. Changing the UI means I'm losing hours and h

I'd say that definition defines the outcome of design, not design itself. I focused on the "process" deliberately, because most design work happens outside whatever tool you use to externalize your plan/vision. It&#x

I didn't mean to talk about the field in general. Computer science is, beyond doubt, "degree deserving knowledge". I just meant that most IT jobs don't require such knowledge and, in my opinion, would benefit from a more

I can see your point, but I believe this roughly depends on the education level we're talking about. I did my degree quite a few years ago, but finished my PhD last year. At least in the higher-level, when "learning" isn'

Maybe I'm wrong - and I kind of hope I am, as there's a noble motive behind this movement - but I always feel that people are focusing too much on IT and the stories of a guy who became a full-blown IT professional learning by him

Yes, of course. My intuition would be the same. But that doesn't mean that the only point of a university is to guarantee exclusiveness/selection and accreditation.

I'm not U.S. based, so I don't have a total understanding of the whole "prestigious" university vs. community college debate. However, I find it hard to believe that they teach basically the same thing. I'd believe

I wouldn't say that the substance of e.g. a M.D. degree comes "second". Maybe you're focusing too much on IT?

That's my setup, essentially. Chrome as my 'dev' browser, as I'm too familiar with its devs tools. Another nice thing about having a browser only for development is that, when you're demo'ing, there's less

I see your point, it makes sense. But I have to note that in gulp (at least) you aren't restricted to plug-ins. You can use "generic" npm packages, as long as they output a stream (e.g. browserify).

Maybe it is. But, on the other hand, it's a nice example because it makes you wonder: if companies who've been making webcams are failing so much in security, what should we expect from companies making products which aren't

Completely agree. Comparing these numbers doesn't make sense; of course npm has more modules, but why would I care about having e.g. node's express framework available to my build tool/task runner?

I'd say no, but I'm a layman. I think the situation you describe is "just" an interaction between different systems which, together, make the whole open macrosystem which is your body. If I can push myself to go even fur

This shouldn't come as a surprise; "mental" and "physical" aren't distinct entities, our bodies function as a whole. Having to state this is, I think, a reflex of an ever-present dualist view of the body (in th

Not quite, I think. I've been using it, it's cool and all, solves some common CSS issues, but it comes with its own set of problems. For starters, it's a whole new set of browser incompatibilities that you have to learn [1],

Besides this, middle class doesn't have the ways of the higher class (to influence legislation and hire experts in avoiding taxation).
