For my interview at Google I wish I had sat with an LLM. Instead, I got this newly graduated engineer who just gave me a bunch of leetcode tasks. I was unable to solve one of them, and even now, years later, I'm pretty sure it was unso

Ah sorry, I misunderstood you! I agree with everything you say in this comment. Although I do wonder how much of that "magic"/"wow" factor was due to me being very young back then, rather than those games actually b

From what I can tell, they didn't release the actual model, but rather a kind of framework for running and training models in a distributed way. The only actual "model" in there appears to be three Dense layers in a "dem

Applying math to a more practical betting situation, like poker, is a lot harder. You'd have to be able to calculate your exact odds of winning given only a small amount of information, without a calculator and without it taking so lon

You could also use something like https://github.com/Breakthrough/PySceneDetect to first split the video into camera shots, and then grab a single (or average) frame per shot, leading to a cleaner result.

Also, having to boil water in a water kettle first is a minor, but significant enough, inconvenience. It's why so many people now have hot water taps for tea, and use espresso machines instead of filter coffee.

I was in China a few years ago, didn't take fingerprints, iris, or face recognition. Just a routine passport check and that's it. I flew from Europe to Beijing, might be different if you fly from the US.

I'd say the killer "app" for the iPhone was the touch-screen. There were plenty of other phones that could be used to make calls, at the same quality for a lower price. Frankly, I still find the iPhone to be way too expensive

After reading "Permanent Record" by Edward Snowden and "Cult of the Dead Cow" by Joseph Menn, I can't help but feel like the NSA is basically "the bad guys", and I assumed most hackers would feel the same.
