Yeah I read this article and think: isn't that a possible reaction for anyone who feels like their world is falling apart? It just happens at a different point for a "narcissistic" person, of which I definitely can recognize

Love this list, thank you. My simple contribution is building a parabolic solar cooker.

I haven't used a slow cooker for years once I got a dutch oven. First a Lodge, then a used Le Creuset 5.5 quart for less than a quarter of the price new. It looked like it got used on campfires, but it cleaned up nice. I have no reason

Which makes a bit of interesting observation about what the map is actually showing. Mostly density of wifi networks for this subset of users but partly their movement patterns too.

Since discovering this (but it's not at all new) a few weeks back thanks to an HN comment, it's mainly gamified walking in residential areas for me.

Interesting link thanks! Of that list of 9 I guess you could label alcohol as hormesis. Not without controversy of course. And some argue plant intake is a form of hormesis.

Healthful hormesis (in nontoxic doses): saunas, cold exposure, fasting, breath holding, exercise could be included here too, I guess... Any others?

Funnily enough, the interview fraud (I wasn't a part of that) only got brought up after he was gone. Between being at a very passive government client, plus company culture, it's almost more amazing that he was able to burn bridge

I worked for a consulting (bodyshop) almost 10 years ago and they had this happen. Someone did phone interviews with flying colours. The candidate himself was barely functional with English and had a pocket translator in hand at all times.

thank you for this! It describes me very well. I'd say having someone next to me even makes me more anxious.

Yes, she went through 7 miscarriages and a history of mental illness in her family so I don't begrudge her holding her children while she can. It's not cost-free, though. Life has been educational :)

I'd still do "attachment parenting" over crying it out, but that's me. Just saying that every choice may have a downside that comes with the territory. Yes, I think anxiety and unwillingness to acknowledge it has played

I know the theory for sure. In my experience kids could outcry their parents' patience, unfortunately.

Understandable, I was editing that part to soften it a bit before I even saw your reply. 6 year old is currently in that state. Again, even daring to admit something like that invites commentary from other parents how we did it wrong. Maybe

Yes, my comment is my own personal experience, and my conclusion based on that experience. What sounded dismissive to you was a slightly cynical take on the parenting advice industry, and contains my advice to stick to your own intuition.

Having a 6 year old refuse to sleep without a parent in bed because of "attachment parenting" tends to make one wonder if there's not some merit to having gone through some pain in the early stages. Thankfully, there's s

Dad on my 3rd baby (2 months old now). I'm like a WWE ref, I lift up my son's arm to check if it drops without resistance, after walking/dancing for a few minutes. Then fast to his bed if so.

From my copy editing days, it's drilled into me to never write "n times less" -- I get that it means "1/n" and that's how I'd rewrite it, but yes, it's notoriously confusing, or at least imprecis
