Unfortunately you are sort of stuck with Nvidia. AMD has fantastic Linux support, but no CUDA.

Is it the same? I've done CUDA development myself, and the ease of local development is hard to beat.

I play a lot of stepmania (DDR and stamina), and I have really struggled with audio latency in Linux. And I have spent far too much time on PulseAudio and JACK configuration. Windows, again, is fine with nearly no latency and virtually no c

That was definitely a troublesome paragraph. I’m not sure what point he was trying to make exactly. The rest of the article is much better though. Master recordings for example - is this offensive? It seems almost identical to the usage of

I don't know how true this is. Personally I've always noticed significantly more input lag on Linux than Windows for games. I even used to hack on ezquake's Linux port to try and get the input lag down, but the Linux kernel j

Slight exaggeration on my part. I was thinking of my old desktop which is about 6 years old - taking about half the time to compile a project compared to my brand new MBP.

The trend in laptops has been for longer battery life and less heat. Since there haven't been any major breakthroughs in battery technology or mobile processor power (at least from Intel), this means lower power for processors and gene

You just recited the unwashed masses dogma. I don't really agree with you at all. The vast majority of british people I've interacted with, even the "uneducated", all have reasonable, well thought out opinions even if th

That's really sad to see. I also found the included songs pretty boring, and without custom beatmaps and scoresaber it's not really very good. I wonder what FB's strategy is here - why cut out the enthusiasts?

Have you played Alyx or something like that on VR? It's absolutely not a gimmic. It's pretty freakin' amazing.

Not sure this makes much sense. All the top end VR headsets are constantly sold out and require waiting months to get one (Index and soon the HP Reverb G2). People want to play Alyx but they can't. Also a PC only game is niche enough,

Nope... it just seems to make the glass stronger (more shatter resistant). Which is unfortunate, given how bad iPhones scratch over the last few generations.

This is why clear copyright and licensing is so important. Unless something is in the public domain, don't use it unless you have permission. > The entire software industry is built on the idea that APIs are not copyrightable. The

This is a complete dramatization. Are you copying 10k lines of code from a licensed code base into your project without permission and using it in your commercial product? Github projects already should strive to use correct licensing, and

It's basically a repo containing ~/.emacs.d. It provides a lot of sensible defaults for different Emacs packages, these are organized into "modules" which are just sub-folders that can be enabled or disabled via the cent

It's not really comfortable enough for very long sessions. You really need something as lightweight as a pair of glasses for productivity work, in my opinion. Maybe we'll get there eventually, depending on how mobile SOCs improve.

A good approach I think is to put together screen cast demos for work - like with obs studio. After you do that a few times pretty much all your fear of public speaking will tend to go away. It's so easy to do this.

Same here. As an engineer, who is naturally very blunt about work, I just heard another engineer speaking and being honest about all the pros and cons. My overall impression is he is very optimistic about things, and proud of what they'

I’m fairly sure the Ars review is plain wrong on this as well. Measurements in other reviews show the Quest 2 at 503g, vs the Quest 1 at 580g. That is around a 14% weight improvement, not 10%. On top of that, the headset depth has been redu

There is something odd about this Ars review. It’s not the normal high quality review I expect from them. There is a lot of subjectivity and plain wrong things stated (like less IR sensors in the controller). The only legit criticisms I pic

I think the lag is subjective. I find it noticeable compared to wired - however I'm fairly latency sensitive. I think if you've never played Alyx over wired, you may not notice the lag in VirtualDesktop. Playing something timing s
