I've never seen any evidence these interviews accomplish finding the best or even a competent candidate. In my opinion the best interview process involves simply looking at the work history and having a conversation about it. If it sou

Everyone does this because everyone thinks they need to. So you're suspicious of everyone, but the only thing you can legitimately suspect is that they're the kind of person that does what needs to be done.

There's so much suspicion in this industry. Is it so in other industries? We see a 20 year work history, and we assume you must be lying so we LeetCode you in front of a couple recent college grads. And now we're going to go after

Well, I don't think there's necessarily anything "wrong" with it (It's actually from my own resume), I just cringe when I read it. It reminds me that I operate within a world obsessed with jargon and eye-roll induci

It is so simple. There's no "Experienced software architect with a proven track record of delivering high quality and performant blah blah blah" shit. What were the interviews like back then?

I think it's pretty wild my trashcan has had OS updates for almost 10 years. And researching these tools y'all are recommending it looks like it might actually still be possible to run Ventura on it. This is actually probably my m

I'm looking forward to trying it. There's been a million ways to manage desktops and windows, and there probably never will be the perfect one. I'm all in favor of experimentation in this area.

I don't like non-standard titles. Some of them are cute, but I don't put them on the resume. I will map them to something else. I once had a company hire me into a Senior Software Engineer role but they gave me the title "Sof

I ended up skipping Monterey on my 2013 Mac Pro entirely because it wouldn't let me install it because my original SSD broke and I replaced it with a non-Apple SSD. Starting with Monterey, that's not cool anymore because reasons.

The pandemic forever cured me of my willingness to participate in Trolley Problems. I would say harming people over some vague future promise of helping them is, from this point forward, always the wrong decision.

I find this very frustrating. If COVID-19 was a lab leak - wether it had involved gain of function related or just unwisely moving viruses from the animal kingdom into human spaces - what good did any of it do? Apparently our ability to cre
