What leads you to think that a deflationary currency should be the sole basis for an economy?

Working in elections I am very skeptical of this. The reason is that electoral systems support the transition of power by creating a publicly trusted mechanism to measure support. People have to believe their votes are being accurately tabu

I have no idea. I meant my comment in jest— this episode is likely to end in a movie about We— since there’s no evidence MS had heard of WeWork as early as 2010.

The penultimate slide (132/133) of the Softbank Vision Fund deck from 6/25/2010 is just the words "We (movie)". This now sounds prophetic. If you're curious, you can see the whole strange deck here: https:

I moved to the Bay in the summer of 2013 to work for a YC company. I read Dhalgren every night then. The way he weaves technology into the story is so different from other science fiction: incredibly light on exposition and origin, heavy em

Fair question, yes it does. We've pivoted quite a bit so where we landed has nothing to do with optimizing ads for campaigns, even though it's where we started. What we sell now is much closer to "Slack for political and nonp

I think that very few people who buy ads in politics believe CA's model works. I think Russians could figure out that race was divisive in the US because they've known that and their propaganda has long centered on American racism

They don't have a good track record. They have good marketing. It is very hard to demonstrate (or disprove) efficaciousness in online persuasion, and as a result, it is easy to take credit for client victories. It is a great chain of b

also, for your edit, I'd stand by my claim. SCL might have been running ads (I have no idea if they did), and those ads could've made a small but important difference. But I don't believe that the software CA claims to have b

Big talk, no walk. They didn't succeed in building a piece of software that would allow more economical targeting than Facebook already has with its custom audience system. If they helped win, which I would be intensely skeptical of, i

Hey, this prediction is interesting, but not resonant with my experience as someone who works in this. Cambridge Analytica's impact on 2016 is significantly overstated. In fact, I would feel confident saying their impact was zero. The

I’ve been using Portal Spaces a couple weeks. The shared whiteboard excites me a lot. We’ve been able to cast Real Time Boards to it, to have focused conversations during our engineering retrospectives and planning meetings.

But how common is it actually to pretend to be a gender you are not for something like this? Displaying yourself as trans brings huge social opprobrium in most places. I can’t imagine anyone I know pretending to be a trans woman to get a jo

I got my first job out of college through HN at a YC startup. I am still in startups several years later and will be for a long time, hopefully. I am very grateful for the opportunities I've found and cultivated from it.
