Like a minimalist mixture of the old DOS games Star Flight and Star Fleet. Brought back some nostalgia.

Yes, this comment is more inline with what's going on. It has little to do with protecting people from harassment, it's about trying to make reddit more appealing for advertisers and imgur more appealing for a buyer.

Whoa whoa. Consulting isn't the answer. There are plenty of opportunities in both private and public sector on awesome teams with amazing management.

I think that without a lengthy disclaimer the author is misrepresenting his opinion to novices as being some sort of guide where you can choose your path from level 0 to 1 to 2 for rows in the table and that somehow you will become a good p

That is a highly debated matrix as evidenced here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4626695 Personally I don't see much value in telling someone they need high-level CS studies to be a good programmer. How does kn

When you say you were anxious and holding to the side of the cliff with fingernails, were you also particularly busy? I ask because I can recall several times in both school and career when I was much more productive because I had to be d

You and all the research seems to agree. Of course, the anecdotal evidence outliers will disagree, but I don't see how there's a debate anymore when you look at productivity.

Have you tried using screen[1]? Might make things a little easier than have two separate SSH connections. [1] https://www.gnu.org/software/screen/

The big difference is you don't mind when Apple does things like this. If you have "Hey, Siri" enabled then your phone's microphone is on all the time listening to everything you say. But I don't see a lot of peop

I applaud your efforts for hiring for talent, but you aren't making a fair discussion of the issue. Of course you can select for talent when you're a small company and you are doing all the hiring yourself. But as others have po

This is cool tech but I wonder about the efficiency claims. Depending upon how the HVAC system is designed, where vents are located and where return air is located, you could cause the HVAC system to run less efficiently if you alter the a

We covered this in my CS courses as well. I feel bad if anyone comes out of a CS program and isn't exposed to the Therac-25 incident even if superficially.

I hear this kind of stuff every day on the radio and other news sources living in Colorado. Here are some things to consider: 1) Only the revenue is really important to the politicians - there has been virtually no talk about using the mone

I'm starting to wonder when people are going to stop trying to "fix" email. Email is amazing at what it was designed to do and doesn't actually need fixing. The way it is abused in your/my/most organizations
