Particularly for sites you only log into every few months. One time passwords, with a 6 week lag between use require a password manager. Memory will not cut it. And if you are nontechnical that means paper. I consulted a decade ago with a

I may be misunderstanding but it sounds to me like you are arguing that widespread use of a technique makes it ethical. This /really/ doesn’t align with my morals, which are definitely not a popularity contest.

I just did this Monday, and there is 0 support that I could find for moving ebs volumes cross region. I used netcat to push the data, which seems profoundly wasteful. I'd love to hear of an s3 based approach.

The article doesn’t discuss the fact that CORS/SSE is broken all browsers except FireFox, so your evented streaming server’s going to have to be on port 80. (And as most proxies close connections aggressively, it can’t be proxied.) Which

Yeah - but what would really help is if EC2 had more tools to support cross region moves†. Hint, hint… -- † I too did an us-east-1 to us-west-2 move on Monday, and it was unfun.

As you’ve used it - how long does it take? I read up, and I decided they where probably just making a new EBS volume in the new region, `netcat`ing the data across, and taking a snapshot of that new volume, with the `netcat`ed data. So I

Minor niggle: Not their parents’ generation, maybe their grandparents’. Some one who’s 20 today, and entering the workforce, would have been born in ’92. In ’92 lifelong single employer employment was well dead. I see comments like this (

It is not a lie that many people who are against wind energy claim to be environmentalists afraid of bird mortality. It doesn't take much looking to prove that they aren't in fact that. But few people look, and so it's a great cover for bot

The problem with life, or at least my life, is that I go through it wrong because of things I can not know. I can't argue with it, I can't know when I'm wrong and when I'm not, and I can't know when I know enough to make any particular deci

I looked at the wiring for the previous generation and at the very least it wired up to such systems. I'm fairly sure it works with them - and, in spite of all the pretty pictures, the site ( http://www.nest.com/ ) is quite informative.
