I think it is. We have a large amount of tooling in existence to inspect text based formats. Binary format inspection requires new tooling to be written and deployed. This is a major barrier. I may be a bit old-school, but I learned HTTP

I agree. They say you should write to your audience and this feels like the author did and it’s targeted at an audience - that, well, is not HN. I wish it had been targeted at HN - as then I would have read it. But after the first couple o

The problem is that the only people with data are the Credit Card companies and the VPN providers, and they both have dogs in this fight. We wouldn't believe the numbers they released, if they released numbers, which they probably won

Scope matters. It’s quite different to assume that people can look at the outside of any particular letter, than it is to assume that people are building a database of all your mail, and doing social network analysis on it. The results of t

I’m not sure. I’d say allowing some editorialization in the title would have made a better submission. Say, title: "DevDocs: An organized, and consistent interface to Web Documentation", with the same URL.

Yeah - particularly since reeder syncing is now via feedbin which is 2$ a month. Which makes this service 84$ a year. A bit steep in my opinion - particularly the reeder part. I'm willing to pay up front for software that runs on my

I, personally, would not suggest that intelligence services don’t need to exist. I would however suspect that civilian intelligence services are overly large, ambitious and funded for the goal of informing America of threats. That’s a debat

Yes. Or at least exist at what scale, for what purpose, at "peacetime". History has taught us over and over huge standing armies will be drawn into conflict (often quite easily) and wars ensue. Perhaps the same is true for huge s

teawithcarl did just call SCMP "a top HK newspaper" which is a much lower bar, than a global "top newspaper". And frankly one I agree with from just wandering around HK for a few days (spread out over many years). And o

History books do not portray all leaders, even American leaders, in a favorable light. A perusal of history books will come up with quite a number of people portrayed very poorly indeed. A glaring example: Nixon.

I don’t know - I use zencoder and zendesk. Just because your product has a wide and diverse user base, like zendesk’s, doesn’t mean it’s easily confused with every other product who’s name is related. I don’t assume there is an affiliation

This is a horrible, convoluted workflow - with good reasons for being that way. Like many I’ve seen graphic designers engage in. Their tools suck, badly, and are just letting them down. I know the difficulty of replacing those tools is hig

I think your plan is right - leaving is the only option. And rocking the boat before you leave is probably not useful to the org, nor helpful to your career. This sucker is going down, and moving along is the right call. As you transferre
