Yuck! I really don't like these kinds of schemes. People should share/follow because they actually like a product, not because they want to get early access to a product. If your product is truly viral within its core user base those users

Imagine that Timmy and Jimmy are selling lemonade on the street outside of their parents´ houses. Timmy and Jimmy are both selling three to four cups of lemonade every day. Every few days they increase the amount of sugar in their lemonade

That's just silly. If you seriously let one slide convince you, you are bad at making investments. What about the team, current progress, previous achievements?

Why not wait one year and actually get a degree? It's okay to take risks but no reason to overdo it.

I don't think this is a viral tool. A viral marketing campaign is made of users sharing something because they think it is cool, not because they have to share the product to use it.

I consider myself a power user and I still would not spend time doing a clean install. When I buy a MacBook Pro I know that I get a computer that is powerful enough for me and just works. I am not going to spend a premium and computer that

My iPad is my primary device for blogging. Since it is so accessible I end up blogging more now that I have it than I did before.

The internet has really progressed since that article was written. Instead of hackers getting angry at newcomers we have resources such as stackexchange and quora that filter up the top questions and answers and make them easy to find.

What could Sam possibly learn from his experiment? Everyone on hacker news knew that what he did was possible technically and that it would put an end to the experiment. He basically said so himself in his original blog post. He didn't like

Of course, there is always a bully that will ruin the fun for everyone. The experiment showed that the bully was Sam Odio.

I think most of us thought it was a nice gesture to give coffee to strangers. Sam did not agree with us and decided to stop it. I do agree that it is within the bounds of the experiment. The experiment proves that Sam is a bully who will sp

The important thing to remember is that we have always been afraid of jobs disappearing due to machines. Textile workers in France in the 18th century were afraid to be replaced by automated spinning machines. Switchboard operators got ma

Value is ultimately determined by what people are willing to trade for - by supply and demand. Obviously, Bitcoin is not worhtless to thousands of people. They are being traded at $14 at Mt Gox right now. Why is gold valued at $50/gram toda

Definitely true. There is nothing stopping anyone building a credit card network on top of Bitcoin. Again, Bitcoin is still an experiment. It might even be the case that certain groups of people require such a scheme to use it.

I wouldn't call this a big problem. It is a minor issue at worst. In the Bitcoin forums there has already been several discussion on how to solve this issue by paying a third party to facilitate the transaction while preserving anonymity.

Giving someone coins is similar to Bitcoin. Still, Bitcoin is more practical than carrying around a bag of coins. You can send them instantly across the globe without fees and keep as many as you want in your pockets to name a few.

You are building a straw man. There are plenty of reasons why paperclips are unsuitable as money. They are easy to forge and there is no guarantee of how many will ever be in existence to name a few. Trading oil or gold directly is obviousl

Plenty of people save in BitCoin, some would even argue that's where much of it's value comes today. Look at the article from Richard Falkvinge that he linked to for an extreme example. Nowhere did he suggest that the restaurant owner excha

Don't know why this is getting upvoted as it contains a bunch of factual errors. It's definitely being used as a currency already, as the article proves. It's a highly fluctuating currency, but that doesn't remove it's properties as a curre

Nothing new here. Just the standard speculation of what will happen to BitCoin after the MtGox hack. The truth is, nobody knows where BitCoin is heading. It is still in it's infancy and Gavin, the lead dev, always describes it as an experim
