I think this is a classic example of us old timers wishing our kids got the same experience as us. Back then, you HAD to spend time fiddling with the hardware. Today's kids are much more empowered. Since everything just works they can spen

The downside being that you have very little consumer protection if you buy something that is broken. I buy everything through my Mastercard credit card. I always pay my bill at the end of the month so I never pay anything extra for it. It

No, the banks take a cut. The interchange fee that goes to the networks (VISA & MC) is very low (don't know the exact amount). AMEX is another beast. AMEX is not sold through banks and AMEX can therefore set their own very high rates.

Thanks for the comment. I didn't expect people to be so bothered by the popup. I will remove it.

Yes exactly. For iOS this seems to be the only way right now. Would be much cooler if they could implement a couponing system. Then we could be Groupon for apps (Appoun?) :)

I'm sorry to say that this is wrong on so many levels. We engineers like to believe that the author is right and our guy gut tells us that "hey why do the sales people get commission and I don't??". So why is the author wrong? While there c

I refuse out of principle to click on links with headlines that are so obviously trying to trick me into going to a site. Make the headline informative instead, if you have great content people will read and share it anyway. Better version

"Science works with generalization and taxonomy." You still need to do the science though. Taking two examples and drawing general conclusions from that is just wrong. It's a case study of how B&J and Amazon have operated, which in itse

The problem with this post, and other pieces by Spolsky is that he creates an example out of two extremes on what really is a sliding scale. Amazon burned through a lot of capital. B&J grew slowly during decades. In real life, things ar

(Swedish citizen here, so can't speak for Germany) I'm not gonna tell you it's easy. But it's not as bad as it sounds. The state takes the biggest hit. The employee does not receive full salary and the employer only pay a small part of that
