The default position is, like it should be for any scientific field, to assume nothing. Unless there is enough evidence pointing to a specific cause, the consensus will be "we don't know for sure, but here a few possibilities"

The West in general has been on a downward trend when it comes to manufacturing. Areas that were relatively wealthy decades ago now have high rates of unemployment, crime, drug abuse, shortened lifespans etc. If projects like this work out

The problem for me is that generally the highest ranked answers are the oldest, and in a fast moving tech stack this leads to really outdated advice. I do a lot of Python programming and some of the answers only work in 2.7 for example. Sam

I've had success using xid for user-visible IDs. What's nice is they're shorter than UUID, will sort in order, hides the amount of rows in the table. https://github.com/rs/xid

Interesting that they mention observation stations on the far side of the Moon, when these satellites would presumably disrupt certain observations. Obviously the level of interference will be much much less than on Earth or even Earth orbi

Many of my friends on FB know that their data is being harvested, and simply don't care. As for me, I would use an alternative platform in a heartbeat, but all the privacy focused ones so far have not gained any traction.

It's much more than "2 new keywords", asynchronous programming is a different way of thinking about program flow and architecture. The thing is, your program is only as asynchronous as the lowest I/O level. It doesn'

The biggest problem from what I've experienced is Protobuf, not really gRPC. Even though gRPC works fine overall, of course a simpler, faster implementation is always welcome. But having used Capn Proto, I would reach for that rather t

Similar situation here in Western Europe. I don't even have direct road access, need to take some stairs. So when I was buying a car electric made no sense. However lately the city has made some improvement to public charging stations

The point is, obviously, that any of those events could have rapidly ended up with me dead. For doing absolutely nothing wrong. Do you really enjoy living in a country where police have power of life and death over you and your loved ones?

In Europe, extremely unlikely. I've never even been verbally abused by police in the UK, Spain, France, or Italy. I have been stopped a few times, fined a couple times, even searched once. But not once did I feel to be in any sort of

Unfortunately it's not absurd. Police in the US are extremely dangerous. They have by far the highest killing rate of any advanced nation, and can do so basically with impunity. Also you do not need to be driving. I've had extreme
