I'd wager it's even more true among top-tier candidates. Anecdotally the best engineers I've ever worked with have been among the most uninterested in politics.

For every politically woke CS student there are two dozen completely apolitical ones (and a sprinkling of wrongthinkers). I don't think Palantir is really desperate for applicants.

Have you ever tried to support a native application? There's a reason why the web is the preferred mode of delivery over the internet.

Uber and the gig economy are just a small part of a much larger trend. American labor has been increasingly devalued since the late 70s. The only difference is, opposed to say offshoring manufacturing jobs, that it's very visible to yu

It's because I've been trying very hard to understand what your contention is. The bits about peacocking and resume-padding are... unconvincing. > ...improve UX, performance, maintainability, and development cost. I don't

So a thing nobody wants or needs became extremely commonplace because JS devs (and only JS devs, I guess the Java guys have yet to discover this) realized they could invent some new frameworks and managers would gladly pay six-figures a hea

This is such a lame meme. A community built an entire distributable developer toolchain from the ground up, in a completely modular fashion, and then get lambasted for it existing on disk. Or maybe non-JS developers are just upset that they

You think an _entire industry_ has been built up around a desire to pad resumes? I don't even know how to respond to that.

I hate that you're downvoted. So many people on HN are truly ignorant about what web development is about. > Because we're no longer making websites, we're making apps This is exactly right. Some projects should be SPAs, s

I don't buy it. The Continental Army and regional militias existed independently, both predate the Bill of Rights. It's debatable by the dictionary definition of the word, but definitely wrong in the context of the US Constitution

I think that's a very questionable interpretation of the word militia. By definition a militia is separate from a country's military.

I think you'd find a great many talented engineers don't share the same politics you do, and an even greater number who are far too apolitical for it to factor into their job search.

Preventing HFT would mean exchanges make less money, meaning they'd either have to charge more or find a new way to subsidize market activity. It's akin to how Robinhood sells data to trading firms to subsidize trades for long-ter

I feel like Redux is a foot-cannon. Too many people use it for simple apps where they take on all the pain but see none of the benefits. I always advise people to avoid it until you're sure you need it.

It doesn't, but blogs aren't built to present content they're built to sell advertisements and collect data. That's much easier with an SPA than a SSR app.

I don't think so, at least not for the kinds of apps I build. My biggest problem is largely around interactivity -- shuffling lots of data back-and-forth between the client and the server. If I'm going to have a SSR app with lots
