I've been running a coding/tech club in a K-5 school and find the iPads work very well for younger students (K-2). Most are uncomfortable with trackpads and lack typing skills. The iPad is very intuitive and productive for them.

Does anyone have the LIFT from iSketer ( http://iskelter.com/products/desks/lift-upgrade-desk-standin... )? It seems like a nice balance between a standing and sitting desk -- especially with a laptop plus external

That was a very inspiring book. She was a pioneer in the field of web design and it's great to see their success. I'm a long time Lynda.com member and I hope they continue to produce the same quality courses going forward.

A wonder if it's a coincidence that the latest video published today is: Up and Running with LinkedIn. Seriously, as a long time Lynda.com subscriber, I've noticed a steady increase in the volume of courses in the "business&q

Coming from a jQuery background, I'm intrigued by ReactJS (especially JSX and components). However, I've also been reading up on Meteor and find it very impressive (if you're willing to consider an end-to-end framework). I d

The Acquisition Criteria on page 23 are quite interesting; definitely a stark contrast from most tech acquisitions. I especially like #5: "Simple businesses (if there’s lots of technology, we won’t understand it)" and #2 "..

Great Project!! The user experience on the page is quite nice--a bit like Trello crossed with GitHub; turning traditionally static wiki content into interactive content. On a related note, I'm curious to hear what others think about th

Great points. It's very important not to classify at such a young age. Kids in the club are encouraged to try new things, experiment, make mistakes and have fun without worrying about assessments or grades. There are no success rubri

I've been running a weekend programming club for grades 3-5 using Scratch (scratch.mit.edu) and notice some of Chris' points first-hand. For those unfamiliar, Scratch provides a LEGO-like programming environment--it's roots g

It's ironic that on a nearby block there was once a Radio Shack next door to Blockbuster. Both of them could not overcome the competition brought upon by the Internet.

That would be great! Maybe even combining maker items with the Kickstarter-type hardware. Another option is to offer electronics workshops to generate value from their physical space. Also, electronics/robotics parties for kids would

There is an interesting documentary on Netflix "Indie Game" that chronicles a few indie developers. It does a good job showing the emotional struggles and difficulties in developing and bringing a game to market.

Very true. For the majority of companies and developers, shifting resources to mobile is more viable in support of a larger, more profitable, business. As you pointed out, there are many examples of mobile-only successes, but it's a v

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I see Coda fitting in between the poweful IDE's produced by JetBrains (ItelliJ, WebStorm, PHPStorm, etc.) and text editors. I think one issue for Coda is that development workflows (especially web developme

With so many players in the mix, I wonder if some consolidation is likely in the near future. Less streaming services with more content breadth is much more valuable to consumers than figuring out which services offer which content.

I'm tempted to try this exercise for the remainder of the year. Can someone recommend a way to not just write, but also learn to write better in the process. I'm thinking of using Hemingway App.

I've had some success using Confluence hosted from Atlassian. The front-end is well-polished and the document management features work well (mostly drag and drop). There's also a back-end API to extract JSON and XML data. Paying

Blender is an amazing piece of software; it's history goes back 20 years. I never worked with 3D before and was scared away by all of the claims that Blender was too difficult. However, recent versions (2.6 and 2.7) have a completely
