Ah, ok. This problem doesn't manifest in emacs, as the tab key indents you correctly by 4 spaces in most modes. I can't imagine it's much of a problem to line yourself up with the first character of the previous line and press the spacebar

Each space in a proportional font is a set width, so the indentation structure is just as clear as with a fixed width font. Am I missing something? I can only imagine a problem if there is a mix of tabs and spaces..

I've been using DejaVu Sans (proportional) for programming (including Python) for the last few months, and found it very easy to get used to. There are just a few glyphs that could be adjusted to line up better (closing braces in JS/PHP are

If the /newest page is moving too fast, how about aging articles not based on time, but on the number of times they have been clicked by users.

Audio is the core feature of the original iPod. Reading is the core feature of the Kindle. Reading from an lcd screen is a significantly worse experience than from e-ink. My point is that Amazon releasing the Kindle Fire is akin to if Ap

A large USP of the Kindle is it's E-Ink display (leaving aside other ereaders from sony etc. for now). I have often recommended people to 'get a kindle' when asked about reading books electronically; this will no longer be the case. I thi

I understand that a local clone uses hardlinks (ln without the '-s' switch). Isn't a hardlink just a pointer to the underlying file? Removing a hardlink, even with the force switch won't delete the original version of the file in e.g. the l

My delicious email is not a current one so I would never have found about this without this post on HN. This short transfer window will likely lose avos a lot of users.

I wonder have you thought of splitting pages in two, and showing the top half of the next page while you are playing through the bottom half of the current page? This would keep pages static. (I wish this could be implemented on my Kindle a

Yes, I know how to use the editor and use it moderately. I'm saying there's something fundamentally unlearnable about modes for me as I keep making mode related errors after years of using both emacs and vim.

I just can't get vim's modes - I'm constantly unintentionally entering keystrokes in the wrong mode, especially when I'm concentrating on what I'm doing. Of course emacs also has annoying modes, e.g. if you change your mind half way throug
