Yeah I’m not sure why people don’t get that walking past the climbing gym, a hundred varied restaurants, and a wide assortment of local shops on the way home is different than driving 20 minutes to go eat or go to the gym. My complaint abou

Thanks for sharing the other side of the story. Manhattan will thrive as the pandemic subsides and the skeptics will be proven wrong just as when they bad mouthed NY through the ‘80s

Yeah I keep checking rents and they really haven’t come down much. Maybe 10% at most from a very high peak. I wish people would stop getting me excited by claiming there are some huge deals to be had.

People do a lot of creative experiments around that building so it’s not surprising you would want to ask before disassembling someone’s thesis project. To call the place “dysfunctional” because some brilliant grad students constantly try n

Yes and the Media Lab in particular was an amazing place (can’t speak for the current state) even if it gets a lot of shit for the bad decisions by a few administrators. Definitely met some of the coolest and most inventive people I have me

You realize the author of the linked article resigned over Epstein and frequently fought to improve things? Why try to link him to some trash that he vehemently opposed? And Swartz’s death was caused by JSTOR not the Media Lab FYI

Google bricked my Android phone many years ago by deactivating the auth server used for logging into the phone with your Google account. The phone didn’t support Cyanogen so I literally just had to stop using it purely due to Google decidin

I mostly agree with you but we definitely reduced reliance on AWS specific functionality after starting to offer on-premise software installations. Most of them don’t gain you THAT much and then the software really isn’t very portable.

We merged with a Microsoft shop and they cut out most of the non-Microsoft services but Slack was so strongly preferred we still pay for licenses and users can use Teams or Slack (there is an app that syncs the two)

No one would complain if it was opt-in because only 0.1% of people would even notice it was happening and sign up. It’s not a straw man because one can’t study racial discrimination at scale by having a few random users opt-in to sharing th
