I may have been incorrect because it's hard to know about everything and I have no issue to stand corrected, but please do not attack my logic by building strawmen. You could have simply stated the name of that predecessor, ideally wit

Is it worth it, to set back Iran's nuclear program only for two years? Obviously I know nothing about foreign nuclear policy, but 1b still sounds like a lot.

It's noteworthy that Mathematica invented the notebook UI that Jupyter ended up popularizing. It has some strengths, but since its syntax highlighting is coupled to the kernel state it didn't have an undo function for the longest

So many people conflate necessary and sufficient conditions. If you look at the world's best and notice that they all practiced for at least 10k hours, that doesn't mean that practicing for 10k hours will make you one of the best.

Unless I misunderstood you, you're saying that every undergrad textbook is not worth reading, which cannot be right. Are you assuming everyone is already aware of all the uncontroversial opinions? I listened to many uncontroversial opi

The position is: quantum gravity might not be that big of a mysterious problem as most physicist make it out to be so they would rather ignore that prediction by Wetterich. That's it, that's the entire position. I don't know,

You can't make that division. Controversialness is not binary. Almost every researcher has a few controversial ideas, that's just natural when trying to push the envelope. Unfortunately, some like to be controversial for the sake

I imagine it as separating a branch from the rest of the tree and attaching it to a new base commit ("rebase"). Naturally you need to apply all diffs (interpreting commits as diffs here) from the original branch to the new base co

Johannes's point was, I believe, that using VSCode remotely works fundamentally different than using apps remotely via X. I don't think he is confused about how X was designed.

Still depends. Using SHA-256 for password storage is bad. Argon2 would be a much safer bet. Or maybe scrypt or yescrypt.

You are confusing the difference between a necessary condition and a sufficient one. The argument was that practicing was necessary to gain a deep understanding of math, not that it was sufficient. Ironically, this is one of the first thing

OpenAI is known to pay up to 10 times that. It's a different world. $86k in Europe is good (about 90th percentile of earners in Germany), but not as fantastical as some salaries in the US. Plus, Paris is probably expensive.

AFAIK the idea is that if you need that kind of interoperability in unix/gnu, you're supposed to write your tool in C and include some libraries. Clearly not realistic in many use cases.
