In terms of business speak, BestBuy is in the services sector and in the business of retail. I think most would qualify it as an electronics retail company.

When asking what type of company is company X the answer should be the same as "In 1 or 2 words, what do they produce and sell"? The problem is that "tech company" has become a complement and inversely not being able to call yourself one im

The "software is eating the world" meme when put into perspective is like saying "accounting practices are eating the world" or "sales strategies are eating the world" in 99% of real world cases. In most businesses, software has become ano

I just went through a similar thing two years ago (burnt out from a startup that became a big company). I ended up taking off about 6 months and then pin-balled through a couple companies before finding something that makes me feel like Im

I agree thats its not sound and their is unfortunately a tendency to cherry pick data to support one's story. I'm not bullish on Zynga but I'd agree that using 2 quarters of data (if thats what is being used by the author) is unfair especi

I don't think mobile and social games/apps are clear-cut examples of economies of scale. Accessibility to the cloud and scalable computing resources isn't exclusive to large companies but it may indeed be somewhat cheaper according to size

I'd say Zynga's problem is that they are a big fish competing in an environment that is much better suited to lots of nimble little fish. With fickle customers and increasing offerings in their segment, its going to be increasingly difficu

I wonder what this list would have looked like if put together 10, 20, 50, 100 or a 1000 years ago. I also wonder what people a 1000 years from now would think of this one.

I'm not going to comment too much on the ethical dilemmas of this behavior but I think it is a symptom of the changing dynamic of the productization of the web. The consumer products on the web (in the larger sense.. apps etc) seem to be mo

IMHO we need more of this (standing up for ourselves). I think there are some who don't fully realize the extent to which we have been lobbied against by just about everyone involved in this business to allow rates to be suppressed either

Yeah I agree it is absurd - the discrepency in Zynga's GAAP and non-GAAP earnings over the past few quarters is disconcerting. My only hope is that investors seem to be catching on based upon recent stock moves. As I see it non-GAAP is f
