Pretty sure Neuromancer isn't a utopian novel, and that Gibson isn't a utopian.

4x10s are tough for me, but the 5-4-9 plan (5 9 hour days one week, 3 nine hour days the next week followed by one 8 hour day - basically alternating 3 day weekends) are pretty nice in my book

That's the likely explanation. The Yukon has ~40k people. 30k of them live in Whitehorse. It's _very_ empty. The remainder of the people generally live near the ~2 roads or on a river

Very Hobbesian. I think you'll find actual implementations of the systems you propose don't really discourage murder or theft; those don't concern the bottom line. I'll point to the Belgian Congo as a relevant example

I think an individual stock in this analogy would be "Will it rain in Duluth". Climate predictions, to use your economic model, would be more along the lines of "Will stocks continue to rise on the whole over the next 100 ye

Part of the solution might be using the local population density to inform how much of the street you devote to cars. For example, in rural areas, two lane blacktop with no shoulder and 100% devoted to cars is ok, because there aren't
