The context was a person who insisted the number of people alive today was more than all who had ever lived. The statement felt wrong but I also initially didn’t believe 100B. After some research, I now believe the 100B number is about

Even more sobering is to consider how many people who have ever lived. The number is estimated to be ~100B people. I was so blown away by this number when I learned it that it affected me for several days after. I often consider it when

As much as we all love to blame HR it is unfair to put this on HR. The hiring manager writes the job description and comes up with the requirements. In many cases these job descriptions are written by a senior IC and the hiring manager ju

Sorry HW engineer here and I strongly disagree. You don’t ship hardware like this. 122F is only 50C. Most components can handle 85C so shutting down at 50C means the thermal rise is >35C. This is simply poor design.

I would add The Right Stuff to this list; it inspired me to study physics. Edit: Others have mentioned Real Genius which I thought was also cool as a kid.

This is not really true. Firstly, the volume for automotive is much higher. 2nd the cost structure is entirely different and a business set up for high cost low volume military parts may not be competitive in automotive with low cost.
