Hi Jeff, how would better search have helped you? Are there people who actually search for certain kinds of games on the App Store?

The main investment here is time, especially compared to online usability testing services (usertesting.com etc.). That said, early in product development in-person feedback is invaluable and you can get so much more out of it than of a sim

Oh I see. I was pretty confused why some people wouldn't hurt me with their friendly fire and others would. It's hard to tell whether the guys shooting at me were really trying to heal me though.

Most people just ran around team killing, and I suggest this is because they didn't realize it's a team game at all. Some suggestions: * At the beginning of the screen show a message that tells the player 'You are on team RED' * Add a messa

I agree with rdl, I think classical scrolling would work better here. Also, could you make the app utilize the full width of the browser window? The comment box obscures the text on my 1680x1050 display, even though there would be enough sp

Some of the English phrases sound a little off to me: "You can download FREE game NOW" - is it "you can download A free game now" (this is what the German translation says right now) or "you can now download THIS game for free"?

That doesn't translate. I spent considerable time playing racing simulations, and still my first time on a real track was an intimidating experience.

Check out PAPI[1], it lets you examine CPU performance counters such as data- and instruction cache misses. [1] http://icl.cs.utk.edu/projects/papi/wiki/Main_Page

What was your tech stack? What problems did you run into? I'm surprised, because I imagine that's how a big fraction of developers here on HN work, and I've very rarely heard that complaint before.

This is also a problem with e-books: There's no way to just scribble something on the pages. I hope there will be a solution for this soon.

Does this affect friendly_id? edit: friendly_id does not use the dynamic find_by_x methods. I guess it should be safe.

Wow those tracks really are cheap. $100 per track would still be cheap.

git-subtree is not the same as a subtree merge. The author himself likes to point that out. A subtree merge is a one-time operation. git-subtree, on the other hand, enables you to continue to merge in upstream changes. You can also split th

I've made some comments like this in similar threads and got downvoted as well. It's just part of the HN groupthink to glorify everything HTML5, CSS3 and WebGL. A game like this was feasible 20 years ago in a native environment or 10 years

I found that things which the end user will consider as 'beautiful' or 'natural' are very hard to express in simple, elegant code. The way our computers work just does not lend itself to creating stuff that looks naturally to a human being.

Devil's advocate: 1. What's the advantage of doing this in HTML5 vs Flash? This is not a game I can play on a touch screen device. 2. Why should customers get excited about a game that would have looked pretty average even in the 1990s? Nob

Why not? edit: I use git for game development, and we check in some big asset files (uncompressed .wav music tracks etc.). As long as these don't change too often, the repo stays manageable. Up to 10gigs is still a reasonable repository siz

Hey, judging by the video I don't agree that your app is 'very well polished'. Check out Cut the Rope, that's the kind of polish that is expected from an App Store game. Suggestions: - Add a tweening for picking up and dropping letters - ce

XNA doesn't even have a generational GC, which makes writing games feel like a constant exercise in tricking the GC. The GC's marking phase is very slow because it has to traverse the whole object graph each time, meaning you want to make t

I have been downvoted for saying something along the lines of this before, but: I am extremely frustrated with all those CSS3 and WebGL demos on HN. I have yet to see anything that wasn't possible 10 years ago as a native app or as a Flash
