I wonder if they’ll release some of the code open source. It would be cool to see some of this early brain chip code.

Unfortunately if the brain has been trained to create fake sounds, then that becomes really difficult to determine. But conceptually there is an thing which is the brain and there are things that are external to the brain.

That’s interesting, I hadn’t considered the falling asleep state. Yeah maybe that has happened to me too. It’s hard / practically impossible to determine exactly what it is though. It might be someone in the next room, someone walking

I don’t think I’ve experienced that. Noises do ‘go into the background’ so to speak, but even when they disappear completely from consciousness, when they re-appear I know / remember they were in the background. Maybe occasionally I’m

Yes of course, ultimately the brain generates all the sounds, but they tend to be “copies” or at least in some way in sync with something happening in the outside world. The exploitation I was referring to was surreptitiously (or maybe even

My impression was that hallucinations only happened under extreme conditions, like drugs, alcohol, heat etc, but it’s a bit worrying that it could happen basically anytime. If the brain “learns” that it can accomplish things via this method

Yes - I think it tends to be used by people that are into creating online content, it’s the best way to get content delivered to you online. Though there’s Twitter and Newsletters too, which are great, RSS is still hugely useful.

It’s wild that the brain can just make sounds up like that. Now I’m wondering how much of the soundscape I hear is real. Seems like that’s something that could be exploited.

What do you mean by loosely? Whenever I hear a car horn, they always sounds very similar.

I wonder how random that sort of thing is. I mean if the brain needs to make you pay attention because you’re overworked / burnt out, what better way than to fake a bass string sound? That would totally freak me out.

Yeah it totally has the feel of a temporary solution. From what I’ve read though, there doesn’t appear to be much of a plan apart from the current solution. My initial reaction is that I want to keep all my files with .js extension. One thi

I think there are a lot more events that could be useful. Imagine you are travelling with lots of bags, maybe you are on a photo shoot or you are a roadie travelling with a band. - bag goes out of range - bag back in range - bag motionless

I know it’s a bit of an apples and pears comparison, but which part of changing the file extension feels more difficult than editing package.json? I’m thinking about new projects rather than converting existing projects. One benefit I can s

I hypothesise that you’ll find a big variance in backend languages based on when the companies were started. Companies started 10 years ago tend to have Java / Ruby backends, but companies started in the past 2-3 years will often have

What’s the overall feeling on using .mjs files? My initial thoughts were “urgh I just want to have .js files in my projects” but I’m wondering if I’ll warm to them given that they make things a lot easier. Are people eventually just all goi

Thanks for the link. What hardware this would install on? I was just thinking how neat it would be to have a place where you could go online to try out all these old operating systems.

That also could be a cool idea, not sure how it would navigate a comment thread though. You might find that some of the screen readers do that well. I’m guessing there are probably some on HN that have sight issues.
