A delay of a project of 20 years or more is beyond my comprehension. That's people's entire careers. That's the entire senior staff of the project dying out or retiring. That's an extremely non-negligible amount of time

This finding is in line with my intuition. Social exclusion triggers an instinct in the male brain: become something, something higher status, or die. It is “evolutionarily accurate” - socially excluded males do not reproduce. Men who are o

The creativity of the Dirac equation really struck me when I first learned it. Basically, it uses a mathematical trick to write sqrt(a^2 + b^2) = a + b, which doesn't work for normal math, but does work if a and b anticommute : ab = -

I feel like this an overly aggressive takedown of a strawman that "Lagrange points are stable equilibria", which no one makes.

I think this article has a stupid definition of meritocracy. If I work really hard digging a giant hole in my backyard and no one pays me for it, few would agree that "meritocracy is dead". The article argues that there are progra

The men don't farm. That's most of the work. They butcher livestock, fish, but mostly "preserve their strength for nighttime visits". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosuo#Role_of_men https:/&#x

There is a tradeoff with these cultures - men contribute little to child rearing as a result of having less parental certainty. This is very hard for women, as they have to both subsistence farm and raise children. From that perspective, &q
