If you vary the size of the opening, am I correct that that just changes the parameters on the curve? I've known about the central limit theorem for a long time and was probably taught about it in first year, but I have never managed t

I think the key here as you mention is the "pull through". Previously they could tell which ads generate buzz. The more important metric is which ads generate sales.

Don't you think that by trading off complexity of the models you use general usefulness? For example, the 80-20 principle is not about the numbers 80 and 20, but it is just an x-y principle where 80 and 20 are areas of a (particular) c

If I had to teach a class right now, I'd teach them on Raspberry Pi's and with some command line / terminal capability that includes SSH. I would probably bring in mathematics, taking care to separate the two pedagogically. I

An aside: AFAIK there is still not a way on an iphone to block all "unknown" calls without at the same time using a contact white list (e.g.: putting the phone on "do not disturb").

This is a just a short funny story about the domain name c2.com and a certain English sports car. I don't know much about Ward Cunningham, but there are lots of funny (and insightful) anecdotes on his website.

Mac Lane started out in logic before category theory was invented and I think this had a positive influence on his pedagogical style in writing, for example, textbooks. Does what you say have anything to do with probability theory (e.g.: th

Many valued logic arises quite naturally in category theory. If you take usual set theory and change the sets to fibred sets you can easily get a subobject classifier with, e.g., four truth values. However, these don't tell us much abo

I find it puzzling why there isn't a Netflix for sports that just shows sports channels. (Or is there?) Cable providers like to lure people in with sports channels and then force sports to only appear in the top payment tier.

I watched the Ted video, it's interesting! And yes, it does talk about what I had in mind, but of course with much more research and rigour. It would be nice to get a copy of that book that the author wrote. In any case, the fractal pr

No, I don't think so, not specifically, but it could be casually possible. I just mean for example: the standard 3-hut configuration triangle with a central open air common area (the triangle). You can have much bigger graphs too, it i
