I think people are more bothered by the fact that compesation drastically increased during a period of poor performance with respect to market share. Also, please provide some evidence that the board chair of a non-profit with an annual b

Rust is not a Mozilla product, but it was certainly initiated by Mozilla. Its momentum and governance have long since been with its community. I think starting Rust, not Firefox, will be what Mozilla is remembered for in 50 years.

They were not the CEO until a few months ago. They aren't even Executive Director of the Mozilla Foundation. They are the chair of the Mozilla Foundation board of directors.

Thanks for the chart comparing it to many alternatives. It both makes it clear what new things Kodiak does and what alternatives one could look at.

Sequentializing landing so that you can ensure passing tests is the main feature of bors. The normal GitHub CI flow is already what you wanted apparently. In a bors workflow, bors is the only thing allowed to push to master, so master canno

At this point there are like 4 implementations of Graydon's bors. Which one did you use? The Servo and Rust projects have used a bors* for many years and have had few problems. * Servo uses the https://github.com/servo&

The first of the four freedoms of the free software definition is the "freedom to run the program as you wish, for any purpose (freedom 0)." This would include using the software for commercial purposes. https://www.gnu

Those are entirely different buckets of money. Money the foundation spends on things like the IHR, do not come out of the revenue from the Google search deal. Mozilla Foundation and Mozilla Corp are two different entities (though MoFo owns

Since Vorbis, we've all worked to make the codec code as restriction free as possible because we need wide deployment for success. It's more important for a royalty-free codec to win than for these codebases to be copyleft. Once A

If you see such behavior, I encourage you to look for personal relationships. Many of those situations that I have observed the grifting new hires were friends of the investors or founders, etc.

For a few things. These days most of Servo rendering is done on the GPU by WebRender. I think we only use Skia for canvas right now. Hopefully we'll drop it altogether once Pathfinder is completed.

The CSS engine does not have a very modular boundary, because abstractions would kill the performance. It would not be very easy to use it in another browser. However, lots of pieces of the CSS engine are modular and published as their own

Stylo is about 10x faster than the old style system on a four core machine, and about 4x faster than Chrome's style system. This feature alone is worth 30% of initial page load time on amazon and youtube. So yes, Quantum is faster as a

You send display lists to it over IPC, and it's easy enough to generate those from C++. It has a well defined API boundary, which makes it easy to use. This is in stark contrast to the style engine in Servo which relies on memory repre

We're not as other people have said in other comments. On normal content you can often see WebRender hit 200+ fps if you don't lock it to the frame rate. To see this for yourself, run Servo on something with -Z wr-stats which will

To address your second point, you seem to be saying that missing the frame budget once and then compositing the rest of the time would be better than missing the frame budget every time. That is certainly true, but a) the cases where you ca

WebRender is retained mode, not immediate mode. It will only repaint when repaint is needed, but if any repaint is needed, we will paint every pixel. There are CPU and GPU side caches for intermediate results like glyph atlases, so that doe

We specifically target integrated GPUs, and several of the main developers work on linux using Intel GPUs with open source drivers. There's every reason to think this will be amazing on Linux.

For WebRender, we targeted the integrated GPUs. You still need some logic to ensure you don't accidentally kick the discrete one into gear, but the integrated ones definitely have enough performance for almost anything WR will throw at

Pretty sure they don't allow you to download and execute code even if not using a JIT, unless it is an educational app. There are multiple policy reasons browser engines can't be on iOS.
