This. My father lived in various bits of East Germany during the communist era. He had nothing to say but good things about the situation, until he pissed off a couple of Stasi in the late 1970s that was and was deported to the West after a

I've actually tried it. It actually mostly works. There was one JavaScript error which I've fixed and the layout is broken but still flows properly.

Not sure I'd want to throw my schema out of our infrastructure. At the moment, our integration test run takes nearly two hours but this is rolling out the schema and the sheer number of test cases (we have over 1 million lines of test cases

Try west London, particularly Hounslow. Plenty of south Indian cuisine and at very reasonable prices.

That didn't work for us a we netbooted everything off an e1000 and used the local disk for swap only. I still had the e1000 (and disk array) which was skip dived until last year but the wife made me get rid of it :( She didn't want that ki

The serial terminals did that as well and you couldn't unconfiure it on early sun4 prom revisions. You could get around it by using a rs232 breakout box with a resistor soldered in it and then screw that box to the back of the unit. That wa

Sorry I should be more clear. Most PCTs issue consent forms to patients when leaving to allow the third party to perform the survey I.e. Collect then details from the PCT. On several occasions, I've seen them withhold these from the patient

Read the methodology and the sample sizes versus the total sample arena. They only give the surveys to people they don't piss off. That has been observed by myself on numerous occasions.

It's not quite how it works. In fact, I've seen it with my own eyes. The patient surveys are issued by the hospitals. I've actually seen nurses deciding not to issue survey forms to patients that they have pissed off or treated badly. Not o

Already gone through the beta with the vkey etc (I no longer use it). I'm just finding it hard to justify to some clients with the word beta stuck on it (even though it's pretty damn stable).

Agreed it's possible. In fact our main line of deployment is web application which is fairly up to date feature wise, but it still degrades to the lowest denominator. However, the resistance is usually budgetary and apathy related rather th

And for nigh on 10 years we didn't need ANY of them... I'm not suggesting that the features are not nice, but to be honest, we can do without if we need to support it.

Harder than it looks. Submitted 20+ bug reports, got 1 solved. jQuery's issue tracking and source management was a baron land of incompetence. By that time we had our own wrapper API that fixed all the jQuery bugs so we just took the guts o

jQuery 2 can fuck off. In fact jQuery as a whole can fuck off. It's been a disasterous slog using it for us. No end of problems with it and associated half-arsed shitty plugins to the point we've developed our own internal JS API and toolki

I'm stating the truth that you can do what you like, but I don't think that is necessarily right. We still have a lot of corporate users on windows XP with no sign of them upgrading any time soon. Why? They don't need to - they're not on th

I hardly think this is a crisis. Support it or piss off your userbase. That's your call. In our case, becaues we're a corporate provider, 65% of our userbase is on IE8 still and will be for the forseeable future. Do we have a problem? No. W

A big note to add: if you want a secure system, forget Ubuntu entirely and go with CentOS or RHEL with SELinux enabled and locked down correctly. It's as damn near bullet proof as you can get.

That only works until something goes wrong, which it does regularly because the overall quality of the components that are usually used is mediocre. I would hesitate to build anything without a technical expert on hand.

I'd argue they are in a far better position than Google, Facebook and Apple regarding privacy and honesty (shokcing thought that). I think this will be the next battleground so they may have a chance of winning.
