I've 100% found AI to be super helpful in learning a new programming language or refreshing on one I haven't used in a while. Hey how do I this thing in Gleam? What's Gleams equivalent of y? I turn it first instead of forums&

These are the best examples yet. Consumer products held in the hand are probably at the forefront of this space. I'm baffled by how shitty the Apple Mouse is to hold. I think they didn't want to give off the appearance of a gaming

I'm glad you came to the realization that we need unions. We're also overmanaged because the actual managers e.g. the C suite thinks we need to be watched over. Historically the rate of workers to managers was way lower.

That is such a good point. It distracts us from thinking about what our industry really needs right now which is unionization and regulation. The risk of off shore outsourcing and AI and imminent. These kind of posts provide false promises

I work in the auto industry. Cars have changed so much but at the end of the day they're still just internal combustion engines that spin wheels. I suppose EVs represent true innovation but I'm still dubious on their future.

we suck ass at preserving history/things in this country. We all have this attitude of tear it down and build something better. No one is talking about improving/maintaining/repairing what we already got.

I wish. I'm kind of a MS hater and rather they didn't succeed but between Github, VSCode, TypeScript, ChatGPT they're killing it.

Kind of reinforces the idea AI is going to lead to mediocrity in a lot of industries. I feel like our food, like the stuff at the grocery store is a great example. Our bread is made on a production line. It's good but not great. I feel

I looked at the example app. It was basically a spreadsheet. To me that's what make the internet special is not only can I share my shit but people can their shit w/ me. Sharing is what makes it special.

It is odd. It all stems from this idea that engineers make ugly products but that's just not true. I do think some engineers are more well versed in design than others though. I will say the ones I've met who are well versed in de

I thought it was crazy you're supposed to download an app to measure your head to get your band size when I have two soft tape measures laying around.

So many "hacks" are the equivalent of some fool left the front door wide open. If you left your front door wide and were robbed the public would have 0 sympathy for you yet people scream at the Hackers when these companies cheap o

I mean this looks awesome and all but I feel like constantly developing/learning new languages and frameworks has been such a giant waste of resources in our community in general. I hope things stabilize in the future. I've got 15

I feel like the ability to deal w/ this type of thing is more person to person assuming you don't have young kids to worry about. Like I do encounter that type of behavior but I don't know for the most part it doesn't bo

I get the logic from the mocking camp e.g. we're not here to test this dependency we're just here to test this function/method whatever but when you mock you end up making assumptions about how that dependency works. This is

This reminds me of the time managers tried to judge developer productivity based on lines of code changed. The person who ran the build script to generate the minified output for production kept winning. Mgmt was like why is this person gen

Last time I checked overall BTC has gone up in value over the last 5 years and by a large margin unless you bought at all time highs. The statement it lost value through inflation doesn't even make sense.

could see these "statistics" being used to gauge to public response to political decisions. That's pretty dystopian. "President Biden, the 'data' shows your response to Palestine was not very popular".

I think climate change has the potential to f up us in the next 10 years. Assuming that happens I could picture a world where the likes of Bezos and Musk run the show. The Pinkerton's of the 21st century.

Nothing is what it seems in this industry. If we had a free market system here in the US GM would of went out of business in 08 and the streets would be filled with cheap BYD imports from China. We have major domestic protectionism in place
