Google Voice is an unusable mess. I've literally never missed a vanilla SMS, but Google Voice regularly delivers them hours or even days late.

Well, if you change your opinion, that means you were WRONG! And being wrong is... well... WRONG! Don't you see?! You can't let people see you being wrong, man! They might think you're human!

Actually, I think when Martin says "production code", he means "non-test code", as opposed to "code that will be released to production."

Refactoring breaks a lot of test cases (mostly with renaming variables). This is a red flag to me. Your tests should not know or care what variable names are used by your code. It sounds in general like you might not be doing TDD

It's a shame that people are so desperate for jobs and willing to sacrifice privacy for the illusion of security; if it weren't so, things like this would never have a chance to become real problems, because everyone would just walk out of

What I want to know is, did Lyon make that post because he has actually deluded himself into thinking that EE is still relevant, or because he thought someone would actually be oblivious enough to read it and stop using StackExchange? I'm n

Ironically, this is somewhat related to the "grammar & writing style" debate raging in another thread on this very post. If the root poster had written: Google "Cone of Learning" It would not have been so ambiguous!

It might be a good idea to mention that English is not your first language, at the beginning of your longer posts. For shorter posts, it is probably worth your time to spend an extra 1 or 2 minutes making sure the capitalization and grammar

Context is very important, though. I don't think anyone is claiming that there is a correlation between intelligence and writing ability; only that within the context of HN comments from the majority of posters, style is important.

The annual review isn't a discussion, it's where your boss has decided what to write in your review and tells you about it. At that point, you need to change someone's mind, rather than form their opinion. The performance review is too lat
